Anyone here have experience with this TRX system? I found it today and thought it looked interesting, but wanted some firsthand opinions. What say you, BT?

I was looking at getting one but didn't want to pay around $200 for the system and then another $30-50 for the ceiling mount, so i found a couple videos of how to make your own online and was able to make a complete ceiling mounted suspension trainer for $30.  I think its a great core workout, adding the stabilization factor really kicks it up.  If you do go the homemade route make sure you get straps with buckles that have many rows of teeth, my first attempt only lasted a week before the teeth started slipping under my weight which isn't much.  let me know if you have any questions.

Cool. Yea, if I were to jump in, it would be the "do-it-yourself" route. Do you have more details on how you made yours?

I have a trx and love it. I like to mix up my strength training and I find the trx can give you a really solid fundamental strength workout. I only have a door mount not a wall mount but that works for me. Or I can use the clip and hook it up over a beam outside.

Here is the video I followed to make mine:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES5GN9k7BZw

Like i said i ended up having to get different straps, the original straps would hold my wife at 117lb but would slip with me 157lb.  You for sure need to make sure the buckles are nice and strong to secure the straps so no sliding will result when you put your full weight on it.

my homemade rings met with disaster and i didn't want to pony $200 for a trx.  found this review on suspension trainers.

http://www.leighpeele.com/which-suspensio-trainer-is-right-for-you

ended up getting the freestyle trainer for about half the price of the trx

http://www.ringtraining.com/shop/freestyle-trainer-pro.html

note that the freestyle trainer is two separate "rings" instead of all one unit like the trx.  also, the freestyle does not come with a door mount, but, as leigh suggests, you can just buy the mount from trx and still save yourself $80.

i am digging the freestyle.  and i found some trx workouts online that i am easily duplicating on the freestyle.

I picked up a TRX pretty cheap on eBay.  Perform Better has a version called Jungle Gym that is $100.

TRX rocks man! It's ideal for functional strength building and avoiding workout boredom. It is also highly versatile and you can take it outside!

Id buy one if my gym didn't have one.

For those looking for a cheaper alternative who are not quite into a DIY gadget, gymnastics rings sell for about $70.

I got the freestyle rings for $50 here, http://crossfix.com/store/elite-rings-products/freestyle-trainer.&n... I looked at making my own, but couldn't find exactly what I needed.  I bought a couple more parts at Home Depot and attached it to the ceiling of my garage.  Works great.

I love the TRX.  My training studio has about 40 of them for group classes and I use it with clients all the time (they call it the T-Rex).  It takes all your traditional exercises and adds a balance/core stability element.  The best thing about it is that by changing your positioning by just a few inches, you can make the workout harder or easier depending on your needs for that day.  It can also be used for anaerobic "bursts" of exercise during circuit training, which can help improve endurance.  I use this equipment nearly every day.

Did I mention that I love the TRX?  Smile  (Man, they should pay me for this endorsement...)

I just started with TRX at the health club. Agree with the positive remarks above.  The key for me is the Core strength training. Since you are suspending your body weight you need to constantly balance your core with makes it work harder than say doing an excercise lying on your back where you are supported. Also, just adds variety to a workout so your body doesn't adapt from doing the "same old thing". Try it.

I love it's versatility.  With the door anchor you can take that thing practically anywhere.

My trainer tortures us with a door-mounted one all the time. In all seriousness, you can get some really great workouts in using that thing and nothing else -- we did a 35 minute all TRX workout on Monday and my triceps, shoulders and armpits are *still* feeling it!  But form is important -- get some instruction or watch videos, don't try to just guess!

I love the TRX. I took it to India with me and used it in the hotel and hotel "gym" (more like a 1970s flashback). It fit in the suitcase and was totally worth the money. I like that it gives me strength without adding bulk.

I even used it in Times Square recently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llNobm3ijM8

I totally recommend suspension training if you haven't tried it already.

I've tried TRX for 2 years it's great product.
But 2 weeks ago I bought the crosscore war machine...I still can't believe how good is this product...I'm in love..we totally work the rotational of our body (we can't do on TRX) and also we can attach weights on it.
If u use trx u should try the war machine and u'll see what I'm talking about...give it a try...it's amazing...I totally recommend.
