Ski, ski, ski, and ski.
Also I may take karate 8 times a month instead of just 6.
Would like to keep swimming 2-3x per week.
I HATE running in the cold and hate running on a treadmill, so not sure what I will do about that, but I am nursing an IT band injury so I may just back off.
Will probably use the trainer for the bike, maybe once a week.
Would also like to lift a few weights. We'll see how it goes.

p4406 - 2005-08-11 9:30 AM But then again, we're expecting our second daughter end of October, I'm sure that the sleepless nights and everything else is gonna put a dent in the program for the first few months. Anybody wants to take care of my new one for the first 6 months?

You know you're a triathlete when you schedule to have your baby in the off season so the early sleepless nights don't interfere with your season training.

I have 2 tris left this season...a 1/2 IM in early Sept and an Oly Oct 1.  Then I'll crank up my running to prep for a marathon in early Nov.  I plan to take it easy from then till early January...I'll stay active but cut back my volume and intensity in everything.

I haven't sat down and worked out the details yet but I'm going to focus on my swimming technique by getting in the pool 3x per week and taking a TI weekend workshop.  I will also get back to the weight room 3x per week and try to put in some serious base work on the bike (mostly on my trainer).  Running will take a back seat until early spring but I'll still try to get at least one decen run per week.

I'm also planning to begin the process of becoming a certified USAT coach.  Level 1 requires a 3-day training workshop and some American Red Cross Sport Safety Training classes.  As early in the season as possible I also plan to become a USAT official...just to expand my knowledge.

Wow! And that's taking it easy? I don't know if you're in my age group, but I'm glad we aren't doing the same races!

Good luck with the USAT training workshop.

What I meant was that from my marathon in Nov till early January I'm going to take it easy, then I'll do the other stuff...swim technique, workshops, weight room, riding...and then start ramping up my overall training in the early spring.  I'm looking to do a 1/2 IM in the late spring and another in August (Timberman) along with a bunch of Oly distance races mixed in.

FYI - I'll be 31 in Sept so I have 4 more years in the 30-34 AG.  That's about enough time to build 95% of my potential base so I should enter the 35-39 AG at my peak.

So I guess you plan on coaching some athletes? What is difference between the various levels? Will you do online coaching or with local athletes?

I haven't really figured my full plan out yet.  There are 3 certification levels (I, II, III) and they basically require increasing levels of education and experience.  Level I is fairly easy but Level II requires at least 2 years of coaching experience and either a degree in sports science or a combination of various certifications (ACSM, USA Cycling, USA Swimming, USATF...).  Level III is new and requires at least 5 years coaching, 2 years Level II certification, BS degree is exercise science or related field, and references from at least 2 elite ITU or top level long course athletes that you have coached...and those are just the pre-reqs!  I'll probably start out just working locally (maybe in conjunction with my local tri shop Final Kick) to get some experience and then I'll consider going online.  At this point I have a lot to learn and I certainly don't feel qualified to formally coach anyone, but that is what the training workshop and experience are for.  I'd ultimately like to make a career change in 5 years or so and do personal training and tri coaching full time...as well as devote more time to my personal training.

Whew!  I'll be in the 40-44 group about a month before I'd have to worry about you.
