the bear - 2011-02-13 4:47 AM Watchbands can be changed, you know? Even if it's the kind you can't change yourself, you can send it to Timex with $10 and a few weeks later they'll send you a new watch.

Is this true for the resin bands also? I have a timex Ironman with a resin band that Broke. I loved that Watch like no other and it lasted me 2 years of straight use before the band broke during a run. I still have the watch part with broken band pieces on it and if I could replace the band I would love to.

Here is my watch. (scroll down to see the actual watch if you want to see the type of band I am talking about)

Yes

My Timex lasted more than 15 years.  The display finally got too faded to read.  I really liked the features of this watch and could not find another one with all the functions of the old one.

I had the 30 lap HRM verson for about 3 yrs or so.  I started getting really wonky HR readings after about a year, so I sent it in and they repaired it for me for about 5 bucks...  It started doing it again about 2 years later - HR all over the place (saying I was at a 70 BPM during a sweatshop of a trainer workout, then jump to 160, then back down.

And yes, I did all the checking - new battery, HR battery, etc.  I had been wanting to get the upgraded version anyway, so I just decided to get a new watch instead of sending in the old one to get fixed.

I didn't have it long enough to worry about band issues.  I'm currently looking at the one I have on my wrist, and I'm a bit concerned because it looks like the watch body and band are integrated.  It's not like my polars or old Timex with the bands you can take off and secured with the pins.

I think my first one must have been a fake or at least a reject. I won one in a race in Singapore in mid- Feb. and the battery started to go in early May, thoroughly died two days after my last race in late May. I got the battery replaced in Saigon and it worked briefly again but then I wore it once into the pool when our pace clock was being repaired--it died within 50 meters. Apparently the watch repair guy didn't seal the back properly. Sure hope my new one lasts longer!

6 months. What a huge pile of elephant mess. It was the 150 lap TAP watch. Luckily I purchased it for 30 bucks of the classifieds on ST. The previous owner stated it close to new, and I believe it because there were 5 workouts stored on the watch. It was as described and it came with everything that it should come with when you purchase it via retail.

It’s a poorly designed watch. The TAP technology is so sensitive that it records a lap while I am swimming when I did not tap the screen. This always happened even when the tap setting was set on hard, as recommended by the manual. Also, the crystal is absolute garbage, it stained. I could not get the water spots off the crystal, or soft plexiglass…  Then the battery died. I took it to the watch guy, whom I use for my other watches, to replace the battery. Well, the watch worked as expected, for 5 days. The screen went blank. The audible hourly chimes were still working, but there was no visual time on the watch. I am done with the watch.

Only if the watch was as robust as my G-Shocks, they are solar powered and some of them are even atomic clock synced. Follow suit Timex, they are called “Ironman” watches correct?

Mine lasted 4 years. It was a HR model with the integrated looking band. The chlorine just ate away at the connection over time. I wore it for a year with rubberbands holding the excess past the buckle because that piece had already fallen off. I still have it and may try sending it to Timex. I use a Garmin 305 for HR now, but it was a nice casual watch I could still swim in.

My new Timex Ironman watch has 50 lap memory and is water resistant to 100m... but I read in the instructions that you can't press buttons underwater or it won't be water resistant... Seriously?! It's a pain holding my arm up out of the water to press the lap button. But sure enough, the one time I forgot, the lap button got all squishy and water came out when I pushed it dry. It still works so far.

Just don't push any buttons at 60 feet deep     That's how I killed mine.  But they replaced it for free.  Pushing it in the pool isn't a problem, it's the pressure at deeper depths.  I've done several hundred dives with the couple I've had.

Bonus is I found a basically brand new one on the beach last weekend

not long, and now it decides what time zone to put itself on, and what time it decides to say.  be it pushups...or otherwise.  only a beginner heart rate monitor in my opinion, but for my $60 I can't complain.

mine's bought in 2009.. only recently (dec 2013) that the smaller band broke.. and it also breaks my heart.. cause i can't find replacement and gonna need to buy new ones..which is not very convenience cause this watch had been with me in every events and activities i've done.
so, for the sake of sentimental value, it's kept safe at home.

Mine is about 4 years old, I use it mostly for the pool since my pool does not have a pace clock. Still working but the velco strap is getting weak.

Mine is about as old as the original post in this thread.

I usually don't have any problems with Timex watches until the first battery change.  That's when  the Indiglo feature normally stops working.

I've got a 10 lap version, 4 years running no problems yet, band still good. I wear it 24/7, race with it, swim with it, sleep etc.

I got mine on clearance about 6 or 7 years ago for less than $10.  The battery has been weak (so the backlight wasn't working) until the strap broke last fall.  I looked at replacing the band and a new watch wasn't a lot more money than a new band plus a new battery, so that's what I did.  The old watch is out with my bike on the trainer.

I've had mine for ~ 2 years, and use it regularly. The only problem (other than our dog knawing on the strap a bit) is that it is no longer waterproof (small crack in the crystal). I recently bought a Soleus Ultra Sole watch on ebay for $25, I need the waterproof for races and the interval timer for run-walk-run for HM. If the Soleus hangs out half as long as the Timex I will be happy.

I have 3 with velco straps and they last for years. My first one lasted 5 years before needing new battery. I'm talking about the basic IM Timex- not gps/training etc. This is silly, but as a lawyer, I have a couple of "dress" up expensive watches. But, for day to day comfort, I wear the 30$ Timex IM with velcro strap almost every day.

I've had mine since 1998, its just the basic 8 lap memory watch. You can barely read the stuff on it anymore. I've been through about 4 bands and countless batteries, seems I usually kill the battery once a year by leaving it in my car when its 3 degrees out.

This thread is almost 3 years old, still using the above though, but just for IM distance swim, I sync the time with official GPS time to know when the gun is going to go off, then switch to GPS watch on bike.
