I rode the course last night.  I want to add that there is a lot of sand on the shoulder of 1 st street (between miles 2 and 3) and the railroad tracks in that spot are a little rough.  Otherwise, it appears to be a course that has the potential to be fast.

Glad you liked it!  I liked the race, although I didn't do as well as I hoped.  Oh well.

They will eventually be here:

Thanks for the tip about the hill Emily, I did just what you described, and it was nice to run into you this morning.

Was this supposed to be a triangle shaped swim?  I remember it being one last year.  It seemed like the second buoy that we were supposed to turn at drifted and made it more of an out and back swim, possibly making it longer.  Anyone else think this?  Or maybe I cut the courseSealed

And again, my bike computer and Garmin have the bike short, and the run long.

I am sorry I lost you this morning, I hope you had a good race. I drifted off and when I turned back to look for you again, I didn't see you.

Anyway, I am thrilled to hear the run was long.  How long?  My time was a minute WORSE than last year, although my run didn't feel that much worse.  Uggh.   Swim was definitely longer than last year.

Did anybody see the bike wreck on the last turn into the park? That dude was a bloody mess. I hope he was OK!

Yes, I saw him. He made an impression -- very bloody and dazed. Looked fully conscious but no doubt he was hurt. I hope he is OK too. When I saw him the cops were attending to him, so help was on the way.

Swim felt long, bike was short and I got the run at 3.11, exactly a 5k. Had a good race and I actually really like this venue. The guy who was in the accident does have some head injuries and was taking directly to the hospital. Hopefully he will be ok soon. Great to meet a lot of people I have not seen yet. Had a good race today with some of the fastest splits I have ever put up in the bike and run.

The results are up at:

I've got the bike going.  If the run and swim could match it I'd be doing even better.  Wish I would have had a chance to meet up with a few of you.  Nice job everyone.

Hated to hear about the bike accident.

Wow... Too bad to hear that guy had head injuries. Wishful thinking on my part I guess that it was just a bloody face. He must have been pretty fast -- based on when and where I passed him he had to be a decent biker. I'll keep him in my thoughts.

how much longer than 1/2 mile do you think the swim was? the posted times were for 3 mile but the run was 3.1 so times are off a bit.

I would guess the swim was right about only a tiny bit over a 1/2 mile, but significantly longer than last year...  Just based on my usual times.  Then again, I swam in a loop when I didn't need to, so my approach was "long."

After looking at my time and doing an honest assesment of my swim I would say it was pretty accurate also. Big, tight waves slowed times down a bit.

I know Randy has had issues, but I think this was a fairly accurate swim course.  Humbling, but a good one.

Congrats everyone who raced.  I'm really impressed with the Clydesdale division after looking at the results.  "Fat Man's division" this is definitely not.  I've met Jeremy - he looks like an NFL cornerback.  Don Schmeichel is big and tall but he's deceptively fast (esp the swim and bike).  If I can figure out why I keep getting sick I'll get back out and actually participate in the races I'm registered for.

I second the Clydesdale assessment. I looked at last years time and figured if I brought it in under 1:20 I would hit the podium. I came in at 1:18 and couldn't believe my eyes when the results had me as 7th in my division. Saw Jeremy flying the other way on the run (didn't know who you were until the awards ceremony) and knew first was out. Saw another Clyde sporting the same jersey as Jeremy about 2 minutes ahead of me on the run and knew 2nd was out. Figured I would just grind for 3rd....not even close. I think I actually faired better in my age group than as a Clyde. Great showing out there guys!

Thanks for the kind words guys.  I think it is impressive that the top 8 Clydes came in 93rd or better out of 362 total (of which 252 were males) participants.  As Nate, my temate and clyde, says, it is great catching and passing all those skinny people.

A friend also told me last year that: as long as you qualify for the Clydes, you should race that division.  It refutes the myth that we are a bunch of out of shape, slow people who get a "special" division.  I've tried to diet out of the Clydes but can only get down to 220 and once to 210, but was so dehydrated that I cramped the rest of the day.

To be fair, I knew what Don Schmeichel did last year, and when I saw him show up, I knew I had to put down a good time to get a shot at that top spot.  I guess you can race a little scared.

Great day out there everyone.

Had a decent swim, slow bike, murderous run (2nd overall) and felt halfway decent the whole time. After racing IMSG this was a nice quick outing, 16th overall...need to get faster on the bike to do any real damage. As always rocked it old school in the speedo (American Flag Print). Great race everyone...see you all at the races this summer. PEACE!!!

That's my advice (as you've probably seen) too and I foolishly didn't heed it myself!  I would have won the darn Athena division!  The sick part is that I feel really extra Athena-ish this season, so I don't know who I was kidding.  Big hopes in December that I wouldn't qualify...
