Head First Performance

Overcast
Total Time = 1h 19m 47s
Overall Rank = 61/97
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 10/13
Pre-race routine:

Took a pre race dump then went through the usual, packet pick up, numbering, set up transition area.
Event warmup:

Did some light stretching. Some pain in my right knee.
Swim
  • 08m 37s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 09s / 100 meters
Comments:

I didn't think it was horrible I just know I can do better and like I always say and never end up following through. I need to put more quality time in prior to next race.
What would you do differently?:

Spend some more time working on tempo workouts.
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

This went ok didn't have much to do it was a run to bike transition so on with the helmet and shoes and out to the course.
What would you do differently?:

Not really anything. Maybe ride out on my shoes, they are pretty tight so I don't think that would have been any better.
Bike
  • 43m 15s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.65 mile/hr
Comments:

I was just not ready for this ride. This was my first ride on this bike and I know I need plenty of adjusting to do on it before next race. Even more time on the bike is the most important thing.
What would you do differently?:

I need to spend more time on my bike and do as much adjusting as I can to get as comfortable as possible. I have spent time in the spinner and stationary bike but nothing like riding on the road. I just wasn't ready for what the course had for me.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

This transition was ok as well.
What would you do differently?:

I unzipped my pants while on the bike and I could have done that in transition because I could have made up more time on the bike than the couple of seconds I might have saved doing it on the bike.
Run
  • 25m 10s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

I wanted to get to a pace that was just outside comfortable and I did that. The run was not bad not my best 5K time but it was an ok time for me. I would like to run maybe a bit slower pace than this in Muncie. Maybe around 9 min miles.
What would you do differently?:

Could have maintained pace a bit longer and kept it up though out the course.

Average at best!
Post race
Warm down:

Not much really just kind of sat around the pool when it was over. I had a bit of knee pain in my right knee and it was good to sit for a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It's all about preparation. I am not an excuse guy at all. I have been a bit under the weather. 2 rounds of antibiotics, 1 pack of steroids and a hydrant cap to the calf. These are things that everyone is prone to so nothing exclusive to me. Injuries sickness is something that should be factored into your training plan. I know this and so that was not the problem. It was me.

Event comments:

Done a race with them before and its put together well. The race course it self was well marked and manned with people to give clear directions. Water station on a 5K (not normal) Overall a great event. No after race activities other than awards but its a small race.

You can never run the race you hope for only the one you prepare for!
