Maybe too early to start a thread for a sprint, but after yet another snow storm I need a pick me up.

Who's in?

I'm planning on doing it --but I had the flu and bronchitis 3 weeks ago and I'm still not back to "normal."  I'm getting a little nervous...

I plan on being a spectator at this event.  I have never done a tri before so I wanted to check this out, watch the transistions etc in prep for the Got Nerve race.

I signed up for the race....45-50 ag - figured I'd give it a go.

Early season for me so far looks like the Hempfield Tri on the 10th, this race on the 17th, Deep Blue TT in Augustibe Beach DE on 5/7 and the Got the Nerve Tri on 5/21....need to start planning out my May/June/July races soon.

These early season races are tough....to dress for.  8am races in early April can be really cold on the bike.  Last year was my 1st year racing and the Hempfield Tri was my 1st race ever.  Out of the pool and on the bike was a bit cold for the first 1/2 of the course (I kept with just wearing a Tri suit).  My legs and arms felt like I had pins and needles being stuck into them until I finally warmed up.

Aren't they doing standard USAT age groups? I'm in 50-54. I checked their web site last night and this morning for last years results and basic info for this year but the links keep bringing you back to the home page.

I'm sure they are - I just know I'm 46 so that puts me in there somewhere

Drove the course yesterday. Looks like a fun ride. Some up hill stuff, but some nice down hills, plenty of flat and some technical sections. I started out to ride from my house to the race site but got a bit turned around on back roads.  I did chart out a route that is 24 miles long so it will be 60 miles total to ride over there, ride the course, and ride back. I will drive over there with the bike a few times but will do at least one long recon ride.

Sadly, since I am an "away member guest" I can not have you in as a quest - At least it was worth a try.

any idea how they run the swim/pool portion of the race.  I did the Hempfield Tri last week which was a serpentine in the pool - really starting to hate these due to the fact people can't do basic math calculating swim times.  Funniest thing was the guy who started in the #1 position, he was doing breast stroke on the 3rd lap and had already been passed by about 6 people.

I was told by the Y folks that it's a wave start based on expected time (from registration), faster swimmers start first. It's a 6 lane pool with 2 swimmers per lane. Up and back on your own side of the lane. Once all 12 swimmers are out of the water, the next wave starts. The logistics could be interesting. There are 292 registered participants. 12 swimmers per wave is about 24 waves. Let's say the average swim time is 7:00 (1:33 pace), that's almost 3 hours of swim waves.

I went for a swim at lunch in the outdoor pool - it was COLD at first!  The registration dude said the entrants with relays was up to 380.

Should be a nice race, sorry I won't be doing it.
