Has anybody ever tried this helmet cover? I think this was the first advertising link I ever followed on Facebook. It looks interesting. I'm not ready to get a full blown aero helmet, so thought this could be a good alternative. Would also look a bit better than doing the tape over the vents of a regular helmet. And no, I don't work for the company.

Personally, I'd save my $50 and add another $70 to it and buy the aero helmet.  Trisports has the Giro for around $120.  I'm not a fan of altering a helmet in any way (maybe cutting the extra off the chin strap).  The helmet is made in a specific way for a specific purpose.  I'm not sure how adding that plastic shell would change the way a helmet functioned in an accident. Why do you say you're not ready for an aero helmet?  Money?  Speed?  Too new?  I waited until my bike splits were a certain mph, but that's probably kind of silly.  Does it make me faster?  Maybe.  Do I look faster in it?  Sure.

I clicked the link out of curiosity.  The dude in that picture is in serious need of a bike fit...

As other said, go ahead and get the aero helmet.  It's cheap speed.

I'd be curious if its race legal. Or does it fall under 'altered helmet."

If you are looking to modify your current helmet, you could just tape the vents. Or, you could go high tech like Simon Whitfield at Worlds in Victoria a couple of years ago when he used shrink wrap on his helmet.
