Hi everyone, with just 1.5 months to go to race day I wanted to check in and see how everyone's training is going?

February was probably my best month of training since I started triathlon.  I ran more miles than any month, ever, and had not stress injuries.  However, March has gotten off to a very slow start.  I'm confident though and looking forward to some warmer weather than will get me out on the bike.

Still injured so I am volunteering in the transition area.  You will recognize me by compression sleeves even though I am not racing.

That's awesome Kent on your run milestone!

Sorry to hear about your injury QZ, but glad you'll be coming out to the race.  We'll be on the lookout for you!  I hope your injury heals up quickly for you.

Looking to make this my first Olympic.  Any thoughts about wetsuits? with or without sleeves?

In the past the water temp has been 60-65 degrees.  I have done it in sleeveless but you may want sleeves if you have access to it.  Last year it was really choppy.

Thanks, I have stubborn gastrocs.  It has been 8 months of PT to date.  No release date in sight (we thought I was done in Januar but my *good* leg decided to play the game too)  I will be happy to do that course for GIant Acorn this fall as my only race all season.

Ramping up and working off a winter's worth if ice cream. As for wetsuit - based on previous races in that area during early spring, I say YES. I've done sleeveless once with a hood, once without. Keep up the good work, friends. I'm excited!

Finally signed up for this today, I hope it's not cold, I remember a few years ago it was freezing on race day.

I've only ever swam in a sleeveless wetsuit and I've done open water in April and May several times.  I did this race last year and didn't have any problem but there is no predicting the weather this far out.  If you are buying a suit, pick the model that you think you will be race comfortable in for about 80% of the time.  The other 20 percent you can either be uncomfortable, or rent.  Most of my swims are in the late summer, so I bought sleeveless.

I signed up for this race, in part, to ensure that I'll have at least one OWS before my early-season Oly in May. My coach says it's just "a training day" for the Oly. Surprised

This one is a good OWS practice, it was my first OWS ever last year and it gave me a lot of confidence for my HIM, in fact it was much harder, so it prepared me for the worse.  It was just a little colder and choppy than my HIM.

Edit: wetsuit for sure, I have sleeves and used sleeves last yr.

This is my first triathlon ever. I'll be happy if I beat my girlfriend. She was a competitive swimmer and I suck at swimming. We just swam 1.5K in the pool a few days ago and she beat me by 30 minutes. Need to find a coach.

I have done the sprint the last 2 years and Giant Acorn Intl once. Great location. Heading down solo for this race. Also a big fan of the 10am start. Much easier to be awake for. Of course, now I need to get my behind in gear and get some miles in.

mdfahy, How is your training coming along?  Rumpus is only a couple hours...you've got an IM on the schedule this summer.

Well, I started behind plan with less base for IM due to an injury, but I have been completing all the workouts for the BT 20 week Beginner IM program.  It starts to pick up weekly hours at the end of this month, so we'll see how that goes.  But yea, the Olympic is just an early fitness test and practice for OWS, my plan says to do a longer day, but I think I might be able to race this one and be ok.  I also have the Kinetic HIM on my schedule, but I'm doing that as a long catered training day and "practice" for OWS, transitions, pacing and nutrition for IMCDA.

I'm in for my first Oly!  And my first wetsuit swim.  I'm pumped and scared at the same time.

QZ - I'm sorry you are still injured.  That stinks!

Thanks, Carly.

I am just about at my wits end dealing with it.  8 months of PT......they had me out the door once but unfortunately my other leg went crazy on my last visit (official one for the left leg) I went back in a week later and they didn't think it was the gastroc.  Did some soft tissue work ....waited another week to try and run and after a 15 min warmup on the elliptical had to end my run at 2 min.  Emailed the PT, he said "if if doesn't hurt do it" so I rode my bike for 2 hours......went back in to see him the next day and he was like "what the h3lp did you do to your legs?"    It seems the left gastrocs is still a bit tender and the right one is more soleus.

So for now I am a gym rat who swims and has just been allowed back on the bike as long as I don't push my intensity level (hard to reighn myself in sometimes)

The good side is that I am finally improving my swi with the forced swim focus!
