Subject: Bike Shop in Northern VA
I just moved up into Manassas and need to find a place to replace my old bike shop.  I've walked into shops before where the work was, ehhhh, and wasn't pleased with the results.  Would really prefer a place that is solid and recommended.  Can anyone recommend a good bike shop in Northern VA? Thanks!!

Manassas area, try either A-1 or Haymarket.  I haven't used either personally but have some friends that had good luck at both.

Well I hate to say it but I'm in the Manassas area and bought my tri and road bike from Contes in Arlington and the tri bike has gone back there for service....that said it's not that far from work.  I've been into A-1 and they seemed nice but not I'm not sure on the tribike side of things.  Haymarket I've only walked into and looked around....  Bonzai in Falls Church is another great option if you travel that way....

A1 in Herndon have done some work on my Felt, they were very good, knew their business and took care of dealing with the manufacturer, (felt fork recall). I work close by and colleagues also use them with no issues.

Yeah I guess I should have asked, are you looking to buy a bike or to have one worked on.

Really for buying I think it depends on the brand you are looking for, Contes is good for some brands, CycleLife, Bonzai, Spokes etc, all good for their brands they sell.

Bonzai is a good shop and has two excellent mechanics. A-1 is also solid, though they don't know as much about tri-bikes IMO.

There are a few bike shops in the area, and if you search for reviews for them online you will get quite a mix of positive and negative reviews. Not sure why, but it seems that they all each have a mix of great employs and so-so or plain crummy workers. I have had good and bad experiences at Big Wheel Bikes on Lee Highway in arlington as well as revolution cycles

I think based on what I've heard from others is that your best bets for highly knowelegeble places are Contes and Bonzai and there is a hard-core cycling place over key bridge in Georgetown. It sounds like other places such as Revolution Cycles and Big Wheel Bikes are also good, but maybe not as well informed about details/high end stuff. Maybe I am totally wrong about that, but thats what I have heard. (Of course the level of service/detail that you will get anywhere seems related to the price/ "level" of bike you are buying or getting work done on.)

Hope that is a bit helpful!

For someone to work on your bike, tune it or fit it - I'd go with Spokes in Ashburn.
