Anybody else doing this?  This is going to literally be "My First Tri."  I'm both excited and thinking "what am I getting myself into with this tri business?" at the same time.

Just registered so I guess I'm committed now.Sealed

You'll do fine!  I did it last year and it was my very first tri as well.  I'm not much of a swimmer, so that part was the hardest for me...I think I was one of the last ones out of the water!  The bike portion is a little hilly, but not bad.  Run is nice and flat. I'm undecided if I will do it again..mainly because of the swim.

bbreezer1 - 2011-03-15 10:23 PM when is this race

It's June 18th.  Limited to 325 participants and from what I hear it fills up pretty quick.  It's a really short sprint (super sprint?) which is why I chose it as my first.

200m swim, 8mi bike, 2.5mi run.

I did it last year & it was my first tri also.  It's a good distance for beginners to see how they like it.  I got the email last week & registered for it again.  Now that I have a solid year of training & a few tri's I'm interested in seeing how my times compare to last year.  See you there!

Isn't this race on the base itself?  There aren't any hills on base.

I'm wondering if the route takes you from where the Credit Union is and up towards the area where the post office/mini mart is.

That isn't a hill.   Not.  Even.  Close.

If the route is the same as usual, you ride from Postl Point, turn left onto Eglin Pkwy by the credit union, and turn around at the F-15 on a stick at the turnoff to the ACC area.  No hills, although around the flightline it is a bit of an uphill grade.

Ha! I'd consider that a hill for Florida. (I'm not from Florida so yes, I've seen "real" hills before.)

I've never done events on Eglin before so I was just guessing.

Got it.  Thanks! Gives me an idea of the actual course.

On another note.  BT needs a multiquote feature.

I'm doing it again this year.  It was my first and only tri.  I hope to vastly improve my time this year.

Anybody know where I can see past results?  I'm curious about what people in my age category (I'm 36) and experience level (will be my first tri evaaarrrr!!) did in the past.  Right now my goal is just to finish but I'd like to set a secondary time goal for myself.

I'd call the bike "rolling" by Floridian standards, but not hard : )   It is a great race with an excellent post race venue.  Highly recommend it.

If any locals are looking for swim help, I would also highly recommend the folks at the Multisport Performance Institute in Pensacola for some coaching. I know the swim is the most intimidating part of doing your first race.  I have been taking some lessons with Coach John Murray and it is really helped my swimming.  http://www.multisportperformanceinstitute.com/

Just about two weeks away now!

I'm pretty sure this is a "tune-up" race for most of you experienced lot here but this, being my first, is like my "Kona" haha.

So who's in?

I am scheduled to race. It's fun even if you have experience as pacing is not really issue with the distance being so short. Great post race party.

Good luck.
