Subject: Wetsuit Rental
My wife and I are doing the triathlons in Galveston on April 9 and 10. We're interested in renting wetsuits for the event.

I've checked out wetsuitrental.com and they seem fair ($45 for a full or sleeveless wetsuit).

Any suggestions about renters to go with or avoid? Any experience with renters that you've loved or hated?

I ordered/ rented my wetsuit from wetsuitrental.com for my 1st tri coming up April 16th. I asked the same question on here and people that used it said they had good experience.

I chose them because I should get it in time to get a couple swims in it before my race. Probably 1 pool swim and 1short OWS the night before the race is what I am hoping for.

I rented from wetsuitrental.com for a tri last year, it worked out well, the suit fit great and I had it in plenty of time for my race. Sending it back was easy as well. Also if you buy a used suit from them within the year you will get the money you paid for a rental toward the purchase of it. I was going to buy a used suit from them, but got a coupon code for Xterra and picked up a brand new Xterra full suit for $150.

I just rented from them last week and can't say enough good things about wetsuitrental.com.

Their website says to order the week before your event. I had a busy week and it slipped my mind until Sunday night on the week of my tri. I ordered that night, picked 2-day delivery, and it was at my house with plenty of time to spare by the weekend. I didn't even need to be at the house to sign for it.

The wetsuit was a brand new Quintana Roo (with the tags still on it!). I definitely recommend them.

I have rented from Xterra and was very pleased.  No issues with shipping or fit.  I have also corresponded with a rep from wetsuitrental.com (a race I was signed up for was using them as their 'official' rental company but they switched to Xterra at a later date before I actually ordered from wetsuitrental) and she was more than helpful and very friendly, however I didn't end up renting from them (see above).

Good luck!

I was thinking about a rental too for my first OWS tri in June.  To me the $45 for a week seemed a little steep, considering I wouldn't have a lot of time for practice with it.  I'd probably rent it for another week beforehand.  I have another OWS in July, so that's $135 total for this season.  My local tri shop sold me a used Quintana Roo for $200.  Since I am quite certain I'm already addicted before I've even raced, it seemed a good deal.

I am no expert here, but wanted to point out what I read a few weeks ago when I got my Xterra full sleeve suit($199 with BT coupon ), it says not to use in chlorine unless you have wet suit specific shampoo to clean it..   That was enough to tell me that my suit will only be in OW.  Hope to get to test it out in the next day or tow if the wind down here in TX will settle a little so I can hit the lake.

Have you seen what chlorine does to lycra? Wetsuits aren't lycra but chlorine will eat at anything if its exposed for a long enough time. I would never take a wetsuit into a pool. OWS only.

This side of disorder...

As an avid diver and a budding triathlete there's a saying...there are two types of people.  People who pee in their wetsuits and people who lie about it.

I bought mine.

Another vote for wetsuitrental.com.  I rented on for my wife last year and everything about the transaction went as smooth as can be.  Had it in plenty of time, good suit, good fit, plenty of time to mail it back.
