Comments: It fricken cold in the morning. I was shivering for about 5 miles. After that, the sun started to pierce through the clouds a bit. I stopped at every SAG area just to load up on calories and hydration. At mile 30, my left knee was bothering me. This was happening in the last 2 weeks, but it didn't bother me as bad as it did during this ride. I forgot to bring a motrin so I just powered through it. It got worse as the ride progressed. I was really hoping to finish the ride under 5 hours but my knee was killing me. At the 2 sag stop, I asked one of the support ladies for some pain relievers and she gave me one. I took it and it felt better the rest of the ride. At around mile 75-80, I was really tired because of nutrition but after the last SAG stop, I loaded up on cookies and bananas and went my way. People kept talking about "the wall" and it honestly wasn't that bad. Mile 90-100 I was going about 23-25mph; I just tried to finish strong. What would you do differently?: Stretch out some more, use the roller before and bring some motrin Post race
Warm down: Hugged the gf and took some pictures. Made our way back to home and had Pho for dinner. What limited your ability to perform faster: My left knee, I may have to increase my saddle height 5mm Event comments: Beautiful course but roads are a bit rough Last updated: 2010-11-08 12:00 AM

I stayed out in Lompoc and had to wake up a little earlier to make sure I got to the start line at 6:30. It is a rolling start but I wanted to get done earlier. Woke up at 5:30 and ate a banana, drank some water and ate some more fruit.
Walked with the gf to the start line. Saw a nice gentle who let me use his pump to inflate my tires.
