Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 4AM and started the coffee. After a few minutes on the foam roller I dressed for the race. Although it was only 48 outside I wore my blue singlet and running shorts, warm up pants and light weight bike jacket. I had 3 full servings (250 calories each) of infinit and a serving of nuun. I used the nathans 11oz water bottles. In the pouch I had a honey stinger, gu and 4 saltstick tabs. Before we went downstairs to catch the shuttle I ate a banana and a half a bagel (half the bagel was coated with cream cheese and the other half with peanut butter).

Event warmup:

the warm up started with a half mile walk from the shuttle drop off to the bag drop. Thats where we met the rest of the gang. I did a few stretches and made a couple walks to the porta potty and felt pretty warmed up. I figure I had plenty of time to warm up as the race went on. About 6:50 I stripped out of the warm up clothes and dropped off the race bag.

Comments:

I tried to dink a bottle of infinit and pop a saltstick tab each hour. The first 7 miles I ran with Jason. That was nice because we were able to keep each other company (since there was SUPOSED to be a ban on ipods. I stopped to pee at the southern turn around. After that I was able to catch the 4:15 guy and ran with that crowd. Jason caught back up with me shortly afterwards. We ran together until about mile 22. Thats when I stopped to pee and Jason kept going. I should not have stopped because it was hard to start again. Both quads were heavy, both feet ached. My injinji socks felt like they were bunching up between my toes. Both of my shins were hurting and my back spasms were tapping me on the shoulder saying "hey, dont forget about us". I was running slower but steady. I was not going to walk, or was I?? Thats when I heard this person flying up to me on the right side. I thought "wow, this guy is flying". That turned out to be my girlfriend who ran up beside me. Now I knew for sure there would be no walking. Together we muscled through the final 3 miles. I swer, the last couple miles were never ending. Everyone on the side of the road was saying "great job you're almost there!! The finish is right around the corner" WHAT CORNER! We didnt see any finish line. I kept looking at my garmin and it looked like time was still ticking and the distance wasnt changing. During the final 10 miles I grabbed a couple cups of water at each aid station. That with the infinit, salt tabs, and the little bag of GU chomps I snatched kept me from any cramps. So we were able to run to the finish line which FINALLY appeared. The coolest thing about the race for me was finishing along side of Maria. We were not holding hands but it was cool anyway. Besides, I couldnt hardly lift my hands anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Cant think of a thing. MAybe train smarter, less beer and chips.
Post race
Warm down:

walked it off mumbling under my breath how I was going to die. I think I ate 3 pieces of pizza which really didnt sit too well. I didnt even feel like going to the beer garden.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not sure. Experience and not training smart maybe.

Course: mostly flat course. It was a few miles of running on the street and then we hit the tobacco trail. We ran south to the end where there was a port a john. This was going to be at around mile 7.??? because thats when my pace per mile went from 8:33 to 10:59. We then went back north to about mile 19 and turned around again. I think it was about mile 23 we exited the trail and headed back to the finish line. Most of the course was flat. The starting couple miles went up hill, which was good because coming back had the down hill.
