So, what excites you that isn't easy to come by in your neighborhood?

There is a brand of barbecue sauce that I LOVE that nobody carries around here. It used to turn up, but not so much lately. Mom found some at a Big Lots once but I haven't had any for months.  I've been to broke to order any on-line and nobody else ever thought to do it.

Well, mom had to head back to Kentucky for a funeral this week and picked some up. Also got some fudge and other goodies from a great old candy shop too.  I'm anticipating the arrival of a suitcase full of yumminess.

I put that sauce on, or mix it into all kinds of things. Chicken especially, but also other meat, potatoes and rice.  YUM-MY.

So what gets you excited when you know you can finally get your hands on it?

Nom nom nom.

Same for me, BBQ sauce! I grew up in Cincinnati and a like a BBQ that is only sold there. I import to MN whenever I get a chance and when I go to long between visits I have it mailed.

Montreal steak spice, we always get visitors from Canada to bring us some over, and Moose tracks ice cream, sadly we can't get deliveries of that...

Somerset brie and other really good English cheeses, also can't get those brought over for us due to quaratine restrictions.

Prawn cocktail flavoured crisps.

Oh goodness, now Ive started I can think of endless things I miss from the UK or Canada!

My annual crave is a box of fresh Washington grown Red Delicious apples right from the orchard. In the fall, we'll drive a few hundred miles to get a box.

That's a rather interesting coincidence...northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area is where my extended family is from and where mom is flying back from today.  We also ship in chili from Dixie and Glier's Goetta but it's the Open Pit sauce I eat with everything.

Love the BBQ in Cincinnati. Every time I get a chance to stop at Cincinnati, I have to make trip to the Montgomery Inn for the BBQ Ribs

Chipits.  Aero bars.  Coffee Crisps.  Smarties (the real Smarties, not the fake american sugar pill crap).  Anything Tim Horton's.  The coffee isn't that great but you know, it's home.  Although their donuts are the only ones I really like.  A nice apple fritter and a coffee.  Or a boston cream.  Or the chocolate chip muffin.  Sigh...

Open Pit - really?  That was about the only BBQ sauce choice around here forever, so it doesn't seem very special to me.   But to each his own!

I have a habit of making food rounds when I got places, like in Philly I have to get: cheesesteak, a hot pretzel with mustard, and a Tastykake from the Wawa.  It's just part of the experience and not the same here.  Cheesesteak is a joke in MN, you can get okay pretzels but not on every street corner, and the Tastykake (or a Wawa) just isn't available here.

The latest obsession was a spice we bought on the Big Island in Hawaii, called Island Stylin.  I tried to find it in Oahu, since my mom was going to visit after we discovered how great this stuff was, but it wasn't even sold there!  I eventually bought a case, which was actually a very good deal with surprisingly cheap shipping.

Gimme!

Seriously?!?  You know what was in that suitcase? BBQ sauce, stuffed animals, and a bag of dirty laundry.  Gotta watch out for those hillbilly terrorists smuggling sauce and toys into the midwest I guess.

We are too close to Kansas City.  KC Masterpiece and similar sauces dominate the market.  Completely different base ingredients.

I grew up in New Mexico and living in Maine now...finding good Mexican food is IMPOSSIBLE. When I go back to ABQ to visit my parents, I get a cheap Igloo cooler from Target and load it up with Tamales from a fantastic restaurant called "El Norteno"...we just ate the final six from my last trip back (in September).

I have two, one is quickly becoming less of an issue, one isn't.  The first is Fat Tire amber ale, you used to only be able to get this out west, but distribution is slowly creeping east, my sister picked some up in WI, almost to MI!!

The other is Caffrey's Irish Ale.  It's imported from Ireland, but Coor's owns the rights to it in North America and won't import it because they don't want it to compete with Killian's.  Even though its more of a Beamish/Boddington's type of beer.  Mmmm that was good stuff....

I used to live on Long Island. After visiting the Pindar winery, I was a fan. I can't get it in Florida, which is a bummer. And real NY pizza (the food).

Petty's Butcher shop in Orlando.  It's not that the meat is any better than what I get in Chicago, but the experience can be replicated.

When I arrive at Petty's i head straight to the keg, yes they have a keg there and it's complimentary.  Then I peruse the counter a couple of times, talk to the workers, and look for some side items all while refilling my cup as many times as I want.  We will usually spend about 2 hours there along with the $200 we buy for dinner.

A restaurant that serves gluten free pizza - like Uno's (or Beau Jo's in Colorado). We don't have any around here that offer a GF crust, so every time I go to a big city with a restaurant like Uno's I HAVE to stop in and eat an entire pizza myself.

You.

Errr, I mean, all the fine BT piglets

Oh wait, food?

Pop Tarts, obviously. The world's best BTer of the moment whom I love forever (that was you last week, Eric, for your most brilliant Pop Tart thread ...) is Nicole83, who is sending me JELLY BEANS ...

I do miss soul food, Southern fare like chicken fried steak 'n' eggs, American-style breakfast sausage, and Ethiopian food.

Oh, and we can't get any decent junky cereals here. I want me Froot Loops and Lucky Charms!!! Part of this complete training regimen.

And decent soymilk, unsweetened. The crap we get here isn't much for soymilk and it's mostly sugar.
