I can't acribe a significant change in my 'happiness' becuase of any of my hobbies.  Lots of factors effect happiness.....relationships, wife, children, job, boss, co-workers, subordinates, neighbors, financial situation, levels of stress in one's life, health, outlook or perceptions about the future of your life, your family, your commminity, your country, how often you're having meaningful, passionate sex, hobbies, church, extended family, vacations, feeling of self-worth....I could go on and on. So doing a few triathlons does not really a big part of my life.  I do enjoy s/b/r but racing is not that big a deal to me.

More happy when training, but much more guilty with not being with my family as much.

I am happier with my body and the shape I am in. I like living a secret double life as an Ironman too!

It feels good to achieve my goals, and to have met so many terrific individuals in this sport. I also like that I have inspired some friends to start exercising and get in shape.

I've learned to tolerate swimming workouts.

I can run several miles without stopping.

I enjoy the bike rides the most.

I can do almost anything I want whenever I want physically.

Hey.

I am a happy person cross training and racing tri's every chance I get.  My whole year is anchored in fun competitions with hordes of healthy, up beat people. When I do not train...injury...stuff...whatever...I am not easy to be around.

My life is activity...play as a child, judo, hockey, swimming,  and more hockey as a youth...and rugby and tri as an adult.  I am only happy when I have that moment that I can be entirely physical.

I just met with my surgeon yesterday who claims I need three arthroscopic intrusions into my knee.  Can't run for a while but he says my biking will help both pre and post op.  And who kicks when they swim.  Not me.  I love a sport where a nasty injury to one body part is just an opportunity to strengthen and focus on other parts. I can't get into into IMLP til 2012 anyway.

Tri is up there near the peak of fun, fitness and lifestyle, but I would be a happy person in any athletic pursuit.  The bonus with tri is that the deeper you get into it the more it permeates your athletic discipline, rest, nutrition, and priority setting.

Cheers.

Hope that I am not treading into dangerous water here by saying that yes, I'm happier now that I am doing triathlons, but I think that it's more than just an adjunct to my life - in some respects it is a substitute for other parts of my life that are not quite so happy. I won't get into it any more than that, but I do think that triathlon has helped fill a gap that has/had been missing. I don't think that I would have been driven to trying out this sport if other areas of my life had provided more fulfillment. People tend to seek out relief, and not confront "unhappy" issues. Well, I'm planning on a 2-2.5 hour brick tomorrow morning, and I know that after it's over, life can pretty well throw anything at me outside of a tragedy, and for about 12 hours, I just won't care. Hahaha.

Life was great last year after I started doing duathlons. Then I injured my leg and that might keep me from doing any events this year. Now life sucks
