Comments: So I was going into this with a sub 1:40 in mind, closer to 1:38. Here is the race plan Miles 1-2: Go out by feel, let the crowd dictate speed. Build into it. No faster than a 7:40/pace. Miles 2-10: 7:25-7:35. Push the effort uphill, stride it out downhill. Miles 10-13.1: Hang on, push the last 5k. Gel 15 minutes prior, and halfway through Started out fine, did not go to the restroom prior to race since I would have missed the start time. Felt great, but sweating a lot. Stopped at mile 4 for restroom break, maybe 45 seconds lost, but I quickly gained it back by upping my pace some. Felt a stomach cramp coming on at mile 5, and it hit me hard when I reached the hill at little 5 points (mile 6). Lost a lot of time walking working out the cramp. Was fine by the time I got to The Carter Center/Freedom Pkwy, but the damage was done. The rest of the time (till mile 11) was me slowly bringing my pace/time down to make up for the cramp, but it was too late. I just tried to finish so I could go home, not even enjoy the rest of the race. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramp. I can never seem to get this course right, after 4 times running it. Yes it is challenging, but I know I have the endurance to run a sub 1:40 easily. The other issue is that I never cramp, and nothing changed in my plan for race day that would have caused it (not even nerves, I was not panicked about the event). As of now, I dont think I will be returning next year. Whats the point? If I want to PR, it will have to be on a different course. Last updated: 2010-10-05 12:00 AM
