I'll be there for my second year.  Hoping to improve on my time from last year.  Now they tell me it's a 300m swim.  No wonder I was so slow last year.  Anyone else?

You should like it Alan, it's fairly low key.  The swim in the outdoor pool is interesting.  It is heated and may be the warmest part of your day.  I thought that it was 300 yards last year and wondered why I was so slow.  The fact that you swim in the left lane is confusing for some people.  Swimming in the left lane allows you to exit the pool up a wide set of stairs instead of having to climb a ladder.  Last year the swim seed times were way off and it will probably be a mess again.  The transition area is a lot closer to the pool than at the Azalea.  The bike mount line is at the bottom of a small hill so some people run their bike up the hill and then mount.  The bike course has a number of sharp turns and so you will probably be more comfortable on your second lap.  And there are a couple of speed bumps near the end of the lap.  The run is nice and flat with one up and down over a small pedestrian bridge.  See you there.

Bob

ps - The parking is not as nice as at the Azalea.  If you aren't there really early you will probably have to use one of the secondary parking areas and have a fairly long walk to the race site.

Got my swim time today.  I'm number 126 starting at 8:37:00.  I still expect slower people to be ahead of me.

My goal is to not finish last. As of now I only have a 10 min lead on the last swimmer so its going to be close. :-)

blynott is correct. Out of all the races i have done, 3, this one seems to be the worst as far as swimming seeds. Swimming in the warmer water is nice but it does make for a chilly bike ride.

Very important to check what gear your bike is in before you rack it. Remember you have a 20 yrd uphill start. And it's one of the steepest hills in Wilmington. ;-)

One of the better area competitors told me that he runs his bike up the hill and then does a flying start.  I don't do a flying start so I will remember to set my gears for that hill.

I'll look for you there.  I'll be the old (68) bald guy with the fancy new TriWilmington race suit. (At least I'll look fast)

I drove around the bike course today...it is in terrible shape.  Be careful!  I predict a flurry of flats.  I hope I'm not one of them.  It's a good thing the race wasn't today as the wind was bad.

Great seeing all the Bters at WAC today. Beautiful day, great race. Stacey isn't planning to do White Lake. We'll be there all weekend. Maybe we'll run into you on Sunday.

Didn't see any flats but I did see a few tubes and CO2 bottles on the ground jimmied loose from their respective bikes.

Hey Lucas, sorry we missed you.  My bike was rattling so much I thought it would fall apart.  I guess it was my water bottle.  All I kept saying to myself was - don't flat, don't flat!  Btw Lucas, great run!

Well, met my goal of not finishing last.

I must have cheated on the swim as my time was 6:11. I did feel pretty well on my swim but I have never swam a sub 6:30 min 300 before and 6:11 includes my run to the swim finish line. I apologize to whom ever I head butted. That is, IF it was my fault. :-) Especially if it was you Stacey.

Great meeting Alan, Stacey and Bob. Might be time to get serious if I am going to continue in this sport. 100 out of 107 in the bike and 106 out of 107 in the run is embarrasing.

Lorne
