Hey Mark - where's my "Are you tough enough" sticker?! Last year I received a packet with a pretty cool sticker that I attached to my door so I had to look at it everytime I left the house. Needless to say, the motivation factor from that sticker has expired.

Great Floridian Tri stickers? Funny you should ask. Stay tuned. We have uncovered a few and will have a special event coming up this week to get everyone psyched for the 21st Annual Great Floridian Triathlon.

Have a very safe 4th of July everyone.

Training is coming along...

Longest swim to date: 4300 yd 5 weeks ago; typical training swims are 2700 - 3500 yds.
Longest bike to date: 75 mile also 5 weeks ago; typical long rides have been 55, followed by 30-40 minute run. Long rides start ramping up this week, peaking at 120.
Longest run to date: 14 mile long run per week for 5 of the last 8 weeks. Long runs also starting to ramp up, peaking at 22.

This will be my second IM. Trained "scared" last year for the first one, simply prepping for the distance. Much more intensity, shorter duration, speedwork this time around.

...but the couch is nice during the TdF.

Perhaps, but if I recall correctly, there were a number of participants in last year's race from other states....

Hey All,

Getting close!

How is everyone's training going?

A group of use from the Miami-Boynton beach are invading Clermont to do this. I think we have 4 individuals and one or two relay teams going.

We have been up a few times to try the hills, but I am not sure that was enough.

We supported a friend racing last year, and had a blast. Really looking forward to this year, although I am sure I will suffer some on those hills.

See you there!!

Glad to hear there are more folks coming out for the race...this is a great independent ultra.  With much regret, I have been relegated to the intermediate distance race due to injury.  My brother and I are both doing the intermediate distance race this year and re-tooling for another IM next year.

We both did the Great Floridian Ultra last year...prepare for the hills, especially if you are coming from South Florida.  If your training terrain is mostly flat, bring the right gearing if you plan on actually running the marathon afterwards!

This is a fun event...we'll be in Clermont soon.

Sorry to hear about your injury!

I was just reviewing my logs from the times I went up to Clermont to tackle the hills. I am feeling positive about my prep, but who know what race day will bring!

Thanks!....the injury has been both frustrating and painful.  Even my daughters we very disappointed after leaving the doctor's office, recognizing the the full distance was no longer an option.  Simply going to make the best of the intermediate distance and cheer on those suffering through the full.

We arrive on the Thursday before the race, including a trip to an Orlando-area water park on Friday.

Best wishes on your taper and race day.

I will get there Friday. A group of us are staying at the Marriott up the hill from the park.

Our group is going to be doing a water stop on the run, so that should be fun.

Enjoy the race, and bring a cowbell to help us crazies on to the end!

We're staying at the Hampton Inn just down the main road in Clermont...stayed there last year as well.  I was sold when we first walked in the lobby and there was a giant sign welcoming the Great Floridian athletes....OK, the free cookies and bottled water did the trick, but the sign was really cool too.

Don't have a cowbell, but me, my wife and four daughters can get very loud!

I believe the full starts first, followed by the intermediate...so I'm guessing my brother and I will cross paths with you and your group at some point.  Complicating the search for a needle in a haystack, I'll be the guy with a shaved head and quite possible the only ride from Swift Carbon Bikes at the race.

FWIW, and Lord willing, a group of us from up here in Tallahassee has made plans for B2B in 2012.

22 days and counting! Really looking forward to this race as it's my first full iron distance. Look ( or Listen) for the Hawaiian themed support group near the finishline, as it's a bunch of me and Eliwashere friends.
