Let's get this started. This will be my first time to White Lake but not my first HIM. Who else is doing this? First timers? Veteran White Lakers with any tips?  Training going well for everyone?

Steve, You will love this race. If the weather cooperates it seems to be a PB spot for everyone. Of course, that depends on how the training goes during the spring! The heat can be uppers 80's or low 70's. You just never know year to year in NC what the weather will be in early May.
The water is clear as glass. The bike and run are flat as a pancake but the run can get hot with very little shade.

Well I'm definitely looking forward to it!  I'm currently deployed so training has been on and off based on mission requirements.  I'm also not a huge fan of the heat so I'm hoping it stays somewhat cool on the run.  I hear that lake is beautiful, though!

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm doing White Lake Half #1.  I raced an OLY there last year, and it is a great venue for a race.  You are correct in that it is a beautiful lake!!!  Three of us went down 2 weeks ago to ride the course and had a good time despite the rain on the last 15 miles.  Good luck to you on race day!

I did the race last year on the first weekend. Run was rather hot. The run course has no shade.

I am expecting the same for this year. Depending on where you are deployed, you might not consider 90 degrees with high humidity hot....it's all relative.

I'm in Kuwait and it's already in the 90s and humid on a daily basis. But im from CT so anything over 90 will always be hot for me!

Well, I just signed up for white lake 2. Ive been training for eagleman in June, but uncle Sam has other plans for me the month of June. Guess we'll see how cutting a month off my training plan goes...for those of you that have raced WL before, how's the course? I've heard it's gonna be hot. Windy? See y'all in about a month!!

Any idea what the water temp looks like over there vs. previous years at this time?  Think we'll be wetsuit legal?

Also, have the recent storms affected any of the race venue?

I'm doing WL #1 this year.  Did #2 last year.  It's known to be hot (and usually windy too).  And as said, no shade on the run.  It was 93 when I finished last year and not wetsuit legal.  BUT, it was the first time that the race was not wetsuit legal.  I think it was abnormally hot prior to the race last year.  I just saw yesterday on a WL website that the water temp (as of this past saturday) is 68.  Keep in mind that the lake is only like 9 ft at the deepest level, so it warms rather quickly.  10 degrees in 3.5 weeks is not out of the question if its really hot.  However, I would venture to guess that it will be wetsuit legal this year.  At least, I'm planning on it for #1.  Last year, #1 was legal and #2 was not.

Here is the website I saw it on.  You can keep checking for updates.

Good luck!
