Pre-race routine:

kids birthday party yesterday, so junk for lunch. Had rice, fish, veg for dinner, a bit of popcorn. Had a piece of bread, 2 marshmellows and a cup of rice for breakfast, earl grey tea.
Event warmup:

Got there an hour early. We had like, I don't know, 12-18 inches of snow yesterday. A mess.

Checked out the conditions, very very icy, Worried that it would be called the Bone Breaker instead of Ice Breaker. Fell once while warming up, soft landing though. Slipped a number of times. Decided on the Rockridge because they are a little sturdier, although I wonder if the grip was worse than the 1064s. About 2.5k total easy running. Hit the potty.

Comments:

Good. First mile was slow, I had my Garmin set wrong so it was stuck on max speed instead of average speed, lol. Anyways. Sped up as the race went on, passed people, 3 or so people passed me.

Um, not much to say, I tried to get some speed when the ground was free of ice. The downhills were annoying because you couldn't get any speed unless you were on the side of the road and in 12 inches of snow, which I did at points.

Started my kick in the last mile. Last KM done in 4:45 so that is kinda nice.

Little frustrating as never really got to open it up and push it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, maybe run in the 1064s, I don't know. I have run in them in icy conditions before just figured the rockridge would be better.

Not sure how this sets things up for the HM and M later on. Did the race at my HM pace at the end, still had tons in the tank, although I don't know if I had another 11k. But then again the footing. Suppose we will see.
Post race
Warm down:

Got to the finish and lost my number. I was like, that sucks. This race has an awesome breakfast and you need your number to get in so I headed back out and ran another 5k looking for my number. So good warm down. Didn't find it, but someone turned it in.

Funny, my buddy lost his number but they still let him in, guess they aren't that anal.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

footing.

Event comments:

really awesome race. Great sit down breakfast after. Great draw prizes. Always sells out.

HA, and you were worried about breaking 60 mins. With that volume, you'll be in the 40s in no time!

I think my friend found your number, was pretty beat up that's for sure.

Well thank him for me. I have had that race belt for over three years and it has never let me down until today.

Yeah, it was kinda disappointing because I was looking forward to having a baseline to plug into McMillian. Well, I guess I do have a baseline for races that happen the day after a 18 cm dump of snow, lol. Which may just be my lot in life as we are in the middle of another monster snow storm, 15 cm last night I think, and I don't know if it will clear before my HM on Sunday.

Nice run out there in the snow!  Living up north I guess you get use to it.  Glad someone found your number so you could take advantage of breakfast!
