Champion 6285 Beautiful Sonoma County | Subject: Wildflower 2006 So, who's doing it? I know it's only August and we're not even done with the 2005 season, but... winter will be upon us soon and we'll be doing our base training and gearing up for 2006 before you know it.And, that means WILDFLOWER! Prior to this year's race, we did two training weekends at Lake San Antonio -- one in Oct 04 and one in Feb 05. I'd like to do something similar again this year. The cabins are cheap when they're split between 8-12 people, and we had such a great time!So... who's in? |

Elite 3020 Bay Area, CA | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 I'm in, as long as it works w/ my visitation schedule, so either 1st or 3rd weekend for me. I think I might actually be ready to do Wildflower next year, I've wanted to for a long time. Did you do it this year? Or just train on the course? |

Champion 6285 Beautiful Sonoma County | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 I did it. It was hard. It was just outside my ability, but I finished, which was my goal. I walked most of the run course. I had "intestinal issues" for part of the bike. My race report is here somewhere, if you're really curious. But, all in all, it was a great race and I'm looking forward to next year already. |

Elite 3020 Bay Area, CA | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 Okay, madkat and I tentatively decided on the first weekend of November for this. It's a lot of fun - even if you're not doing Wildflower, Lake San Antonio is a great place to train. Out in the country - and just beautiful. Also, a great way to see beforehand if you're ready for this race. We've done this before and had enough people so everyone was paying less than $20 for the entire weekend - renting out their cabins in the off-season is a really good deal - so come one come all, it's a blast. |

Master 1902 Berkeley, CA | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 Of course I'm interested... 1st weekend of November will be a bit of a stretch for me physically as I'll just be coming off of my marathon, but I'll take it as it comes! Dana |

Champion 6285 Beautiful Sonoma County | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 Here's a timely email I received just this morning: So, for the best deal economically, we should wait until Nov. As for not doing it the first weekend, that's not completely a done deal. Eric has been making some noises like he's going to skip this year's Treasure Island race. We'll see. I'll try to nail him down on that and see if we can set a REAL date for this. |

Master 1902 Berkeley, CA | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 No pressure or anything, but the first weekend is the only one that I can do... I am at a conference the next weekend, and leading a team training the weekend after. Then of course we are into Thanksgiving, and no one messes with Thanksgiving!! (o: (sorry to be so inflexible. of course if you need to set it for another weekend, that is fine. i completely understand. )o: Wahhh!) Dana |

Champion 6285 Beautiful Sonoma County | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 I've very nearly got Eric signed on to doing it the first weekend of Nov. I will check availablity of cabins tomorrow (Monday). If one is available for that weekend, I'll try to get Eric to commit to it and then we'll go forward. |

Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 When I was at PG last weekend my friend asked me about Wildflower. I found myself saying, "I don't think I'll be ready for the OLY." And then immediately stopped myself, looked at her and I said, "Why not? Why do I say that? The only thing keeping me from being ready is me." Kindof an epiphany. So I've committed to the OLY!!!!!! I'm so excited! I don't think my work schedule will let me do an overnighter - but could I perhaps come for a day? |

Champion 6285 Beautiful Sonoma County | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 Of course, of course! The more, the merrier! I think our friend Brian, who also lives in SLO, will be joining us for Saturday as well. It's such a quick drive for you all. The general plan is to do the bike course, and then do the run course. A swim is optional depending on the weather and water temps. Then, once we're all showered, someone preps a delicious meal, we open a bottle of wine or three and scream and carry-on all night long (or as long as tired triathletes can carry-on). |

Extreme Veteran 326 Paso Robles, California | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 It does sound like fun, but I can't make it that weekend. I will try and set something up for the new year another training session. Enjoy the wine though, trey and get something local. I used to go to school there and Paso has some of the best wine in the world. Jason |

Same as last year, we'll also set something up in early Feb (have to take advantage of the winter-rates for the lodging). Perhaps we can work it so you can come then. |

I hear it's actually the 3rd hardest. I know that at least one of the people coming to the training weekend on Nov 4-6 will be training for it. Perhaps we can have a long course training contingent. |

Master 1902 Berkeley, CA | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 Frank-- My friend has done the long course. He's an incredible cyclist, and though he considers himself a casual runner, he can hold a 7 minute mile for the whole half marathon distance. I cannot use him as a measuring stick for anyone. He doesn't think the bike is as bad as people say (it has a hill called the Nasty Grade), but still found it challenging. I and the girl I train with will probably bike the long course while down there for the training weekend, but we only average about 14.5 miles per hour, so I don't know if we will be helpful companions to anyone. We will have recently finished a marathon so will probably not do much in the way of serious running. Dana |

I am also considering Auburn 1/2 IM which Brad Kerns organizes up there but I hear that one has a huge vertical component (although a stunning course through the Sierra Foothills). I averaged 21 mph on my last Oly but no doubt I will be fair bit slower on double that distance. |

Expert 822 | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 I'm definitely thinking about signing up for the Wildflower Oly. If there's still room, I could arrive late Friday night. It's about a 4.5-5hr drive from my place. If I left after work, I might not get there until 11pm. If that's going to disrupt things, I could show up on Saturday but depending on the schedule, I might miss that day's group workout(s). Let's talk about how to make it work. On my marathon schedule, I'm scheduled for a 14-mile run that Saturday, so I would be interested in running the long course. Any bike ride and/or swim would be great. Frank, I'm also considering the Auburn 1/2 (two weeks after the Wildflower Oly). I volunteered at this year's race. It was very hot that day also. Brad Kearns makes the race really enjoyable with his announcing. It also brings in a pretty elite field. Mike |

Elite 3020 Bay Area, CA | Subject: RE: Wildflower 2006 Mike, Last year when we did this, most people rolled in on Friday night about 11:00 pm to midnight. So yu'd just be one of the crew. Then we all slept in and did the bike ride in the morning after everyone was awake. At that time of the year, it's not too critical that you get a super early start, cause it's not going to get that hot anyway. |
