I used to figure 3 months for a marathon, and was wondering if is was the same for a 50K. How about for a 50 mile?

I have a 50K in September and didn't want to up my miles too soon. Trying to keep my base around 30 miles/week, is that too low of a base? Thought a would have a spring marathon to train for but didn't find one that worked out.

Are you running  a 50k or 50 mile? Totally different. If you are running 30 miles a week, you only have to run an additional mile for a 50k. That being said, I would not increase your distance by no more than 10%.

Good luck!

Here is the training program I'm going to use for my 50k in October.

Good luck with your race

Thanks, looks like that program should work. Looks like I am a little ahead of schedule, but I want to keep my miles a little higher. Think I will also keep doing some speed, tempo and hills.

dude I totally think 30miles a week is good for a bit but you should be up to at least 45 miles 5 months out and get it up to 70 miles during the peak build. I recommend pfitzinger's 55-70 mile plan.

That program linked above seems to be a little light on mileage. No doubt you could complete the race but you wouldn't at anywhere near your potential.

Be careful about increasing your miles to quickly.  I have seen many runners get hurt by doing that.  I think do 30-40 miles a week is enough for a 50k especially if you are doing other activities.  Add in a long hikes (6-8 hours or longer at a good pace) to supplement those miles.  It is very rare for me to run more than 50 miles a week and I have been doing ultras for the last several year.  Just my 2 cents.  Listen to your body and don't push it too much.  Good luck.
