This taper is killing me right now! I'm down to running 3x a week for this week and next leading up to the Marine Corps Marathon.

I keep having so much "crap" come up that all I want to do is go out and run, but alas, it would be negative to the plan. How frustrating.

But, these runs this week have been serious PRs and I'm feeling awesome!

sand101 - 2011-10-15 2:59 PM 5k race done.  Breast Cancer thing downtown.  20:29 or thereabouts.  Not bad, not great.  Damn 5k races hurt, though!

Nice job!  I probably won't run anything until Thanksgiving but I'm hoping to break 21:00.  But given that my week off turned into two weeks I can only say I'm hoping and not trying! ;-)

I ran in a 5k this Saturday, too.  It was short, I clocked it at only 2.84 miles, others who have run it before said it was :30 - :40 short time wise.  Finished in 17:36, 2nd OA.  A little bummed it was short but a fun race nonetheless.

So 18:xx?  Absolutely smokin', man.

It would be nice to say I ran in the 18s but I don't think it happened.  I remember seeing the race go through my neighborhood last year and thinking why in the world was I not running in it.  But when we ran it this year I noticed we didnt go down my street.  Found last year's course map and looks like they set up a turn a street too soon this time.  Mapped it out on BT and last year it was 3.10, this year 2.9 (Garmin measured 2.84).  So doing the math using that pace I was about as fast as my last PR (19:1X).  Which I'm not complaining about!  But it reinforces my decision to focus on speed work this winter and see what happens since my base improved a lot during HIM training.

(Yes, I am aware that I just did a lot of research on a small 5k of all things!)

Taper week and i'm going slightly crazy. I'm antzy. I'm ready to get this show on the road.

I did a series of repeats last night (6x400s @ 7:42) and had the hardest time slowing down to hit my pace. I was a good 15" faster than I needed to be and really didn't feel like I was working all that hard.

I'm thinking of taking this training, build on it, and start planning for another full marathon in Feb at Mercedes in Birmingham. As much as I dislike the double loop, I think it'll definitely be fun....

I'm wheels up on Fri!!

Beware this, GB.  Set your pace and go with it no matter how easy it seems early on.

BTW, I'd put up a guess on your donation page, but it looks like shooting fish in a barrel since noone else has put in a time! ;-)  I will guess 4:17:30, though.

Greetings all.

Nothing much to report here - just running a lot.  Did my longest run ever today (16 miles) en route to my biggest volume running week - 48 miles.  Legs = toast.

And Lostsheep did finish his marathon - congrats, man!

Congrats Lost! Time for some well deserved rest

Seems I'll get the chance to go for a run with Chrissie Wellington on Thursday! She posted an open invite to go for a run Thursday lunchtime at a park not that far from where I work. Can't really pass up an opportunity like that.

Congrats on the race. Thats good work.

BTW, I'm back. Have committed to another full IM next year. Looking like Cozumel. Started training last night. went out for a 30 minute run. lasted about 15 minutes before I was dying. Good news is, nothing hurt. No knee pain, no IT band pain. So, although I've let all my fitness go over the past few months and I've gained 20lbs, I seem to finally be injury free. Gonna be a long road back, but I think I can train smarter this time around.

What a difference 24hrs makes! Seems that due to the number of people that intended on joining Chrissie for the run she needs a big group license which the park were unwilling to grant her!

Oh well

Goodness bureaucracy sucks!  Of course, I'd be good to run with Chrissie for a few hundred yards before she ran off into the distance...

Titeloops - glad you are back in it!

I feel for you.  I planned to take a week off after my last race and next thing I knew it was a month off.  I'm having a little trouble getting back into a routine because I have a lot of things going on right now.  However, if I can't go for a run I still WANT to which wasn't true recently.

Yeah, I have definitely been missing thr training. And I'm really frustrated with myself for letting it all go. It has been fun getting fat! But time to turn it around. I've got 13 months to train. Plan is to base build through the winter, maybe do a half in the spring.  Then Coz in Nov.

Where is the rest of this group? What happened to Mark. You guys heard from him?

The groupe has dwindled some.  Just started a 10 wk half mary plan.  Got a race in a couple weeks, 12ks of Christmas.  Did it last year and blew up early, started way too fast.  Looking to correct that this time around.  Also, never really understood why it's 12ks of Christmas and it's run BEFORE Thanksgiving.

Haven't heard from Mark - he is probably still dealing with his injury issues.

On my end I have successfully finished off a 10k this morning in 44:10.  Pretty decent time and a beautiful morning to go run.

Good job!  How was the weather? I heard it was pretty cold.

Saturday was MISERABLE. It was just about 35* and occasionnally spitting ice. It was windy and rainy all day. I got soaked just going to the expo! Had the race been Sat, I'm willing to bet several hundred would've DNS.

On Sunday it couldn't have been better. It was 35* at the start (felt like 27*) with a light breeze. I was wearing shorts and a long sleeve shirt. At mile 4, the shirt was gone. It warmed to mid 40s and was sunny. Could've have asked for a better running weather day!

Holding it together, yes.  Happy, NO!!  We made uncharacteristic mistakes and made too many of them.  The little things caught up with us, and cost us the game.

It was a great game to watch, in person.  Being an Alabama fan, defense is always appreciated.  I don't believe I've witnessed a more physical football game between two teams.

Most we can hope for, is an LSU loss which pushes us ahead somehow, or a rematch.  Will be interesting to see how it plays out.  If OSU and Stanford lose, look for Alabama to be #2, ahead of Boise, unless the voters jump Boise in the polls.

Of course, I'm bias, so I'd love to have a rematch in New Orleans.

Hey guys.  I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I'm going to be dropping off for a while.  I have some personal issues that I need to attend to.  I need to focus on them and get workouts in as I can (not the other way around like I have been for the last two years).  If someone could shoot me a PM if there is a winter thread started I would appreciate it. I'm not sure how active I'll be in the short term but once I get things back on track I definately want to hang out with everyone again.

Thanks,

Anyone interested in doing the winter cycling plan? It made we ALOT faster on the bike last year. I'm gonna give it another go. Did the 20 minute FT test this morning. Thought I was having a heart attack. If you do this program, you WILL be faster next year.

x2 Drew, best of luck.

Titeloops, I'm planning to do the winter cycling plan.  Doing the second (pre-week), right now.  I'm planning to do the testing next Monday maybe, not looking forward to that on the trainer.

I was expecting to fall off a bit, from not being on the bike for a month, but I think I'm doing ok, based on this last week.  May not be as bad as I was expecting, so if I can pick up some gains, that would be huge.
