I got in the pool for the first time yesterday in 6-7 weeks and what do you know....I still do not really like swimming

I maintain that winter swimming is just ... wrong.

Hey all,

I am glad to see everyone is doing well. I am steadily working away at my running, in hopes of getting a nice slow build to marathon distance in February. I actually signed-up to race a half-marathon of Thanksgiving Morning...my family thinks I am an idiot, but I think it sounds amazing!

Other than that, I am headed over to Panama City Beach this weekend for Ironman Florida to watch/volunteer so that I can get a spot for 2012, since apparently it is impossible to get a general entry spot.

Yes, I am committing to doing a full next year. It is going to be a long-year ahead of me, and honestly I wish I could find a race that I wanted to do earlier in the year, but it will work. I'd rather take my time, and be healthy come race day (November). I am scattering a few races along the way so I have mini-waypoints to work towards during the season.

Keep up the good work everyone, and I hoped no one ate as much halloween candy as I did last night. I feel gross today!

Nicole-I agree 100%.  Apparently, the viscosity of water has increased over the last 7 weeks.  Felt like I was swimming in mud I was so slow.

Nick-have fun this weekend.  Looks like fantastic weather.  Countdown begins next Monday!

Randy,

Yeah I would rather the weather be 'bad' this year, so that way it is nice next year...since we all know it can't be nice two years in a row. What can I say, I am selfish?

Well guys (and gals), it's official. I have a spot for the 2012 Ironman Florida.

Definitely glad that I volunteered, as general entry sold out in 16 minutes!

Had a great time cheering on the runners heading towards Finish, and saw a ton of my friends (and people who I see around Jacksonville training) finish strong, and got a chance to make them laugh going in...As Randy said, the countdown now begins.

Hopefully 11/3/2012 will be here before I know it...

Nick-good to hear that you were able to sign up. Just stay healthy and be consistent over the next year and you will do great.

Hello!

Looks like everyone is doing well.  Having babies, doing ironmans (ironmen?)....

I've been doing nothing.  Except preparing to move across the country.  We are moving to Seattle in 2 weeks.  I'm excited and nervous.  Going to look for a tri club when I get there and get back into it.

Best of luck in the "off" season

Christy

Good morning everyone-looks like our group is tapering off over the last few weeks.  I just wanted to thank everyone for being a part of the group.  I have really enjoyed it and it has been great to "meet" everyone and follow your progress since the Spring.  I hope everyone is working on their 2012 race schedule!  I will continue to check in on this thread but given the limited activity lately I just wanted to pass along my thanks to you all for making this such a supportive and fun group.

I would encourage each of you to consider being a mentor through BT at some point.  Maybe you don't feel that you are ready or dont have enough experience? Pair up with someone that has more or less experience than you and then you can provide different perspectives.

I will be doing another mentor group with a BT'er that I first met through another group-he actually mentored the group.  You are welcome to join our group but I would encourage you to consider joining other groups.  Great way to meet more people and get different perspectives.  There are folks that I have met in each group that I have been a part of that I still keep up with through BT.

For 2012 it looks like I will continue to do mostly sprints and olympic distance events.  I get to move up to the 50-54 AG so while I may not get much faster maybe some of my competition will be a little slower.

All the best

Randy

Hey all,

I know there hasn't been much (or any at all for that matter) activity in the group over the last few weeks, but I figured I'd drop in real quick.

So the last few weeks have been amazing,

-Finished my semester of graduate school...one more to go!

-Set a new PR in 13.1 distance. 1:38:02 (previous time was 1:59:40)

-Set a New PR for Oly distance (one week later) with a 2:34:xx (previous was 2:51:50)

-At the previously aforementioned Oly race...I got to meet Chris 'Macca' McCormick and 'race' against him. AKA I saw him on the bike course about 3 miles ahead of me, and he was finishing his run up as I was at about the 2 mile mark of the run.

This group has been an amazing experience, and I have learned quite a bit. Hard to believe when I started this mentor group I was looking at doing a HIM in 2012. I did that a year early, and I will attempt to complete a full (140.6) Ironman in 2012. This is going to be an insane year!

For those of you that are on Facebook, message me and I will send you my FB link so we can be 'friends' on there, and keep in touch.

And last and most importantly,

ENJOY THE HOLIDAYS!

Nick-sounds like things have been going great for you. Thats blazing on the HM and Oly races.  I don't know your last name so can't find you on Facebook.  My real name is Randy Walton so any of the folks here are welcome to track me down on facebook and friend me.

Hey Randy,

I had tried to find you on FB, but there were quite a few Randy Waltons that showed up. Maybe you will have better luck finding me...my profile picture is of me finishing Augusta 70.3

Last name is Gregory.

Hope all is well...Any thing planned yet for 2012?

Best regards,

-Nick
