Subject: Fat loss, not weight loss
As of this morning I am 2 lbs lighter than I was two months ago. So I'm averaging 1 lb/month. But when I got all my testing done we also discovered that I have GAINED 13 lbs of Lean Body Mass. So the real numbers to look at are more like a FAT LOSS of 13 lbs.

Sometimes it's hard for me to remember that little fact. I imagine it's hard for others to remember that as well, especially when most of us just have a weight scale to look at. I would recommend that anyone trying to lose fat go buy a pair of skinfold calipers. Try here:

They only cost about $10 and I think the satisfaction you get from them is well worth it. Remember, it's not just the weight (unless your knees are an issue like mine). I hope everyone else is doing well and tri'ing hard.

Thanks for the reminder that progress doesn't necessarily show up on the scale- and congrats on losing that much fat.  Just think how much you've raised your metabolism by adding 13 pounds of lean body mass.

Studies have estimated that for each pound of muscle that you add to your body, you burn another 35 to 50 calories per day while doing nothing. So, an extra 10 pounds of muscle
will burn approximately 350 to 500 calories a day, or an extra pound of fat every 7 to 10 days, without making any other changes.

This is exactly why the scale shouldn't be the only thing you use to measure your progress.  Body composition is the real goal here.  At 5'9" and 165-170lbs I'm technically considered "overweight" by typical standards...but I'm also about 7-8% body fat so I hardly consider myself "fat".
