Jason I couldn't find Jorge's Winter program...followed a link by the search and it said blog was removed...can you point the way...(sorry).

how quick can I expect my rear tire to wear out?  I see a stripe already after 5 rides.

My old link to the Jorge program is no longer working. This is the newest thing I could find:

http://coachjorgem.blogspot.com/p/cycling-plan.html

I did not look at it too closely but a rudimentary glance makes me think that everything is there. I would take a look and see if it is what you are interested in.

As far as rear tires go, I am on my second season on my current "trainer" tire. It isn't really a trainer specific tire, just one that came on the bike originally. It is looking pretty bad, almost worn through and little chunks of it all over the floor around the bike. I know that there are trainer specific tires and I may look into one after this one fails, which may be pretty soon.

I have done 7 sprints this season, and there is a 70.3 at the beginning of Dec that I want to train for. Other than an increase in volume, does anyone have any other tips?

I would find a free (or pay) plan. Try to follow it fairly diligently. It will give you confidence that you are prepared for the distance and will make sure that you are not missing any important steps. You have almost 12 weeks and have clearly been putting in the work. If you start now you should do great.

Don't just wing it. Find a plan. It doesn't have to be complex, it just needs to have a reasonable progression of work.

Good luck.

find a plan and follow it, or get some help and put one together.
Assuming you are comfortable siwmming, the bike/run increase will be vital to the longer distances. The run is a big part of it, but without a solid bike/bike base, it wont matter how good you run as you'll be toast from the bike. start logging that bike time, and make sure some of the lnoger stuff is at a higher effort level, not just riding. my first few halfs were pretty ugly for me as I didn't put the time needed into the bike, so even with my better run, my half runs always suffered as I was coming of the bike trashed. get used to 2 hr harder rides, or 3 hour rides where you push larger chunks of them,

21 days out from my first 140.6. I am so beat that I can't wait for the taper to start. This has been quite a summer....

You'll be there soon enough! the heavier training load takes it's toll day to day but once you start to rest you'll feel amazing after a few days (its not however, uncommon to feel sluggish, overly tired, etc, the first few days of the taper, this is normal, you'll start feeling restless and ready to go soon after!)

doing well on my end, FINALLY starting to get some running in again. It's been a slow painful crawl even to this point, and I just hit a weekly high of 7 miles. pains me to say that, there would have been a 0 after that 7 back in march but i'm glad things are coming along.

And yes, the fall weather is amazing!!

16.5 hours until the cannon goes off... But who is counting? Thanks for the well wishes. I am ready as I can be. I hope it all goes as planned so I can post a really upbeat, kicka$$ race report. It may be a day or two but I will absolutely let you know how it went.

11:07:11.

It was hard but really cool. The race did not go perfect but now I have a lot of areas that I can improve on. I will post a race report and a link to it later today or tomorrow.

Here is the race report:

Not very witty or interesting as I re-read it, but it gets the gist of what I did. Hope you enjoy it.

I know I am a week late, but nice job and congrats on your first 140.6, can't wait to cross that bridge one of these days. Likely IM AZ in Nov 2013.

Looks like the group has pretty much wound down.

I had such a great season and finished up motivated to keep getting better/faster. I had so much fun in Hawaii that I am determined to one day go back to Kona as a qualifier. Only took about a week off and now it is time to really get back to work. Not doing the long stuff that I was doing for IM but getting in a lot of intensity in the workouts.

Big plans for next year..... Boston Marathon, several HIMs, improving my speed/AG place in the races I do.

It has been great virtually hanging out with all of you for this season. See you around.

Sorry Jason ... I meant to congratulate you a long while back but my computer died, and it felt pretty good not hanging around online so I stayed away.  Anyway, congrats on the Ironman and for a great season.  I really enjoyed reading all your updates and wish you all the best for a stellar season next year.

I've not anything to report other than I'm still working on core and various exercises for my patellar tendonitis which is acting up.  Probably my own fault because of the stuff I've been doing.  I'm still running but only 5-6 kms at a time, skating season is long done, cycling is over but I am thinking of getting some rollers.  I haven't swum in a couple months mostly because I've gone back to kickboxing 3 times a week.  I have never been in as good shape as when I kickboxed so I figured I'd go back for 6 months or so to jumpstart my fitness level for next season.

That is all that is happening with me.
