Overall Rank = 56/109

Age Group Rank = 2/3
Pre-race routine:

Ate a bagel on the drive down, tried to drink some extra fluids and that was about it.
Event warmup:

Jogged back to the car after signing in and then back to the starting line.
Run
  • 1h 06m 36s
  • 6.7 miles
  • 09m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Walked a couple of the steep hills, mostly because the person in front of me was, or there just didn't seem to be much reason to try to run. Developed a nasty blister on left arch about halfway through put pushed through. Got a side stitch with a mile to go and just kept moving trying to ignore it. Made it up the final hill without walking at all, and had a short kick to the finish. Took me a few minutes to recover after some of the hills before I felt like I could really turn it up on the flats.
What would you do differently?:

Felt like I had a little left in the tank, but was mentally distracted by the foot pain and the side stitch. I think I could have pushed harder on the flats the last 1.5-2 miles, and probably pushed harder up the last hill, but I still made it.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked back to the car and drove home to nurse my blisters.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wore old shoes due to the mud, but paid for it with the blisters. I'm sure that impacted my performance a bit. Also, I definitely need more hill work so I can recover faster after cresting the hills.

Event comments:

Another great ORRRC race! Can't beat them for affordable well planned races, especially the trail series.

Overall: 56/109
Performance: Good
Going with 6.7 for distance based off of CK's Garmin data. Avg HR was 161.
Course: Trails at Twin Creeks Metro Park. A great run. Lots of hills that really kept my heart rate pumping. A little muddy in some places, but you could jump over it most of the time. Stream crossings were very shallow. SportTracks says 650 feet of climbing, probably was more, since my Garmin was set to auto pause below a certain speed.
