Elite 2645 Phoenix, AZ | Subject: RE: Ironman Lottery Tomorrow MCA - 2011-04-15 9:09 AM Any idea how many entries there were in the lottery? I've wondered this for a while. I managed to get time with a race director for an Ironman race, and asked him. He told me he didn't know, but he'd check into it. I emailed him later, but I've never heard back. I wonder if that sort of info is confidential. On the same topic, I've tried to ballpark the number, and my best guess is between 2000-5000 entries. What is your estimate, BT? |

Master 5557 , California | Subject: RE: Ironman Lottery Tomorrow I found it interesting that even though they changed the lottery this year to be one big pool of 200 people regardless of nationality, the breakdown of winners stayed about the same (150 U.S. : 50 non-U.S.) |

What is your estimate, BT? if you trust wikipedia: "Another way of qualifying is the Ironman lottery. Two-hundred spots are reserved for athletes that enter the lottery, 50 of them being international spots, the other 150 being U.S. spots. The lottery entries are then drawn out of a pool of about 30,000 entries."
unfortunately, that portion of the entry has no reference, so who knows where that number comes from. I checked the lottery results (I didnt enter), and saw that one person from my town won a lottery spot. Quick google search shows that she's done a couple of stand alone mary's as fundraisers (~5 hours), and is doing boston this weekend. Wish her all the best in finishing. |

We just..... lose" Congrats! anytime you spend on BT you should really be out training! now go! I am still at work and kind of dazed but I admit I have been searching for training plans. If anyone has an aggressive first time iron man plan that they loved, I would like to hear about it. This will be my first 140.6. Last year I did my first 70.3 in 5:06. I am motivated and want to prove myself worthy of the entry, ie. try to hit two times my HIM time + 1 hour (or better). Realistic? We shall see. My wife is the one who wanted me to do this so she should be on board for the training. Obviously I am readjusting which race is my "A" race and it may even change how hard I run my upcoming marathon so as to not throw off my training for too long (I was planning an attempt at a sub 3 hour marathon but that may cause too long of a recovery penalty.) All advice is welcome. Edited by wannabefaster 2011-04-15 3:41 PM |

Just continue training smart so you stay injury-free is the important thing. |

That's not bad... I can see entering every year if you're at that level. |
