ok, i am gonna start this now.

first off, it is my home race

second, it is totally a PR course, the swim is usually high tide with current, bike only has one little climb and one intermediate climb, the rest is fast and flat, get your motor on, the run is as flat as it can get, all aong the beach and beach access roads.

third, plenty of places for family to see action, multiple times, kids playground and real bathrooms for spectators, and they are usually clean.

lastly and certainly the most important is the Rudedog BeerBQ version 3.0, i make ribs, ask peeps to bring beer, and will have some other stuff catered this year, the party has grown from about 20 friends the first year to close to 50 last year, with the late stragglers staying close to 7pm last year. Family is welcome, we get alot of kids. I live 4 miles from the race, convenient to I95 and the Merritt parkway.

we do a training day as the race gets closer, at the beach. Last year we had 12-15 people men and women doing a quasi training day and transition practice, we swim bike and run, do all or some

hope to see you all there!!!!

Rudy

I used to live in East Norwalk.  Got Priced out and had to move to South Norwalk.....That's a story.

Played a lot of hoops at Calf Pasture in my 20's.  Good times.

The swim is staged right there at the Park's beach?

Might be a fun time to visit the old stomping grounds

Flapjack,  yes, the entire race revolves around Calf Pasture Beach.

I will be doing OWS at the beach, that is where i do most of my swim training, should be warm enough mid May or so, i will be sure to let everyone know what my schedule is in case they want to join.

I am thinking of signing up for this, it would be my 2nd ever Tri.  My first is this weekend, the Y-Tri in Milford.

Is this a decent race for beginners with limited open water swim experience?   Thanks for any input!

the short answer is yes.

the swim has been with the current the last couple of years

10 Low 1:40 AM 0.2
10 High 7:34 AM 6.8
10 Low 1:50 PM 0.4
10 High 8:00 PM 8.1

that is the tide chart, which says high tide ends 7:34am so we will be swimming with a slight incoming or slack tide.should be a fast swim, we will do open water swims there in the weeks prior if you are interested, i will post here when they are.

bike has one hill, run is flat, great race for a first timer, no doubt.

Thinking of doing this as my first Tri.  Is there anything more to the 'Charity Slot' other than paying an extra $50?

Thanks!

Nope, other than the $50 i believe goes directly to the charity the race supports, which i'm pretty sure is Save the Children.

Great first race for a first Tri, very fan and racer friendly. I would not say that if it were not true, tri-team non-withstanding.
