Subject: Game of Thrones on HBO - Getting Excited?

I think I'm more excited about Game of Thrones starting on Sunday than I am about my first tri of the season that day.

Who's gonna be watching with me?

I am sooooo there.  I've been waiting for this for a long time.  And early reviews are fantastic.

A few months ago I persuaded my wife to read the first book.  She's not a fantasy fan, but after she read the first book, she read the entire series.  Almost non-stop.

She is now a bigger fanboy than me.

I love the books, but I stopped reading after book 4 took 5 years, book 5 is going on 6 years and there are still 2 more. I'd watch the show if I had cable.

I'm there with you as well...Pretty much the only reason why i pay for HBO and Showtime, to see the original series and that one looks very, very good....

FoggyGoggles - 2011-04-15 9:29 AM Looks like a good series to me. Other than Entourage, this will be the first cable series that I'll tune in for.

I hate that little prince toad.  Sad to see the whitewolf had to die. (wasn't sure of it's name)

Love HBO Soft Porn.

I think I'm more excited for the new book in the series than I was for the HBO show.

It's not as true to the book as a purist like me would like, but I understand the need to be concise and pack 100 pages into 10 minutes.

And yeah, they'd totally tarted it up! I don't remember any sex scenes in the book anything like what they've got in the show. Not that I'm complaining.

I was apprehensive about tonight's episode. That scene with Sansa's wolf, Lady, and Arya's wolf, Nymeria, was the hardest for me to re-read of all the books. It makes me cry every time. I also really loath Prince Joffrey. He's such a ... well, can't say it without spoiling it, right?

I haven't read the books, but it is a given that any show or movied based on a book is never as detailed.   Impossible to capture everything that a book does.

Actually the scene where the wolf (i dont remember the name) saved Lady Stark and the kid from the assasin and then later just laid in the bed with such gentleness watered my eyes.  It captured the devotion animals can have for their owners and the length that they would go to protect them.  I actually hugged my dog after that.

I thought it was a good episode. They showed more depth to Tyrion to make him a more likable character, and WOW do I want the prince to die in some horrible fashion. I loved the scene where Tyrion kept slapping him!

The wolves factor in quite a bit in the later books. Especially in Bran's story.

I really like the Tyrion story arc. Of all the characters, he's the most complex and, for me, compelling.

So, how much time went by between episode 1 and 2. Those wolves were pups in epidosde 1, and full grown throat ripping, arm biting beasts in epidosde 2. Are they some kind of magical fast growing wolf or what?

And I really dislike the queen and her punk son.

How's this work? Do they take 3 toilets, spin them around and you lift the lid hoping to find one with the surprise inside?

PS: I've always wanted to do this at the Home Depot displays...

Quoi?

In the book, there was about a month between Bran's fall and the attack. Seeing as how they're wolves of unusual size, what you see in the show is accurate. But I don't think they did a good job of explaining the lag between his fall and the attack. There was one scene with Cercei, Jamie and Tyrion over breakfast, but they didn't really make it clear that everyone was waiting for Bran to either die or recover, and it went on for at least a month.

Ok, gotcha on the wolves. I'm always multitasking while watching, so I didn't realize they were some kind of giant wolf. I did recall them saying they were waiting for a month on him, but I just couldn't wrap my head around the rapid growth from pup to trained killer/defender in a month.

Yeah, the mother said she'd been praying to XXXX for a month for the kid, now it was in their hands.  Sorry, hard to catch all the names and I've never read the books.

Seems to figure there's some connection between the boy and the wolves, seeing as Lady's passing woke him from the coma.....

Great series so far. Tudors meets LOTR.  Excellent villians, incest, family ties, the Wall is intriguing.  And the Imp is freaking awesome (loved him in Elf )

First 3 episodes have been great but for one thing: dude, whats with all the incest!

I get that the Dayna was probably scared of the big dude she was marrying but it wasnt exactly rape.  okay, but hte incest is just creepy.  Particulary since (and I have not read the books), I have to beleive we will learn that Joffry [sp] is really the child of Jamie and Cercei [sp].  It just gives me the heebie jeebies.
