Run
Comments: Felt good starting out. It's amazing how much difference it makes running on fresh legs. I'd eaten 2 Hammer Gels about 10 minutes before the start. Weather was chilly at first--had on my cycling jacket and gloves. Transition 1
Comments: Didn't have my shoes already clipped in and had a bit of trouble actually getting them set. What would you do differently?: Clip shoes into bike pre-race. Bike
Comments: I started a bit shaky after my rough transition, but I got into the groove pretty quickly. Around mile 5, my left elbow pad torqued down and I had to ride the rest of the segment "holding" myself in the aero position. What would you do differently?: Perhaps try an Aerodrink bottle. Transition 2
Comments: A bit of trouble getting my run shoes on; got a rock in the left shoe the first time trying to get it on. What would you do differently?: Keep shoes clipped into bike and dismount without shoes. Run
Comments: Let myself adjust to the run for 5 minutes post-bike, then picked up the pace for the last 20. The end felt a bit hard, but I pushed to a solid finish. What would you do differently?: Fewer gel packs. By the end of the run, my stomach hurt. Post race
Warm down: Stretching, "the stick." What limited your ability to perform faster: Just need a bit more training and, perhaps, to change up my nutrition a bit. Event comments: A great first race of my first season. Fairly good crowd--mostly good people but the inevitable few jerks. Overall, a race I'll definitely do again! Last updated: 2011-04-16 12:00 AM
