Total Time = 1h 23m 27s
Overall Rank = 137/206
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 14/20
Pre-race routine:

The usual long drive from the boonies to town. Find the transition area get acclimated tot he surroundings
Event warmup:

Not really a chance, it was cold, no real opportunity to get in the water, maybe I should have.
Swim
  • 15m 13s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Horrible swim. I jumped in and felt ok, the water was cold but not unbearable. swam the 25 yards or so to the start line and waited. Maybe 100 yards into it started feeling bad, some mild panic but that was controllable. I never got my breathing right and navigation was spotty. I ended up on my back allot, some sculling some back stroke.
What would you do differently?:

More OWS, more wetsuit swims, this was my first race in a wetsuit. Longer swims
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

A long uphill run out of the lake to T1 on concrete, sort of slow getting up to speed. I had fallen getting out of the water and took a few seconds to get my legs back under me
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting out of the water and running without being dizzy or falling in front of race photographers as they are shooting
Bike
  • 39m 4s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.43 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike went fine, I passed allot of riders. I was cold of course, I need to be better prepared for cold rides or enter tri's later in the summer. I am ok with my pace for this ride, I had recently upped my miles per week and upped my intensity so it shows in my pace. I made good time in the corners I think, drawing on my past criterium experience
What would you do differently?:

not much-train more
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

This was an uphill finish to t2 and a little dicey in traffic so my slick dismount was stunted. My spot was at the opposite end of the TA, but ok time anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Wear my race belt under my wet suit and safe a bit of time.
Run
  • 26m 23s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run for me. Toes were numb from being cold off the bike but I ignored them. I hot the turn around at 13 even so I felt confident that I would get my under 30 goal. My best event run ever!
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

The usual milling around until the TA opens, cool off until I'm cold again the put more clothes on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

That freaking swim? I think a 1:15 finish was in my reach if I hadn't floundered in the water

Event comments:

Overall a good race. It seem every time I have a triathlon the weather turns cold just before. I will try to keep that in mind when I am suffering at Branson in September. I need to HTFU about the weather
