Swim
Comments: Again, heavy chop affected the swim speed, but overall I was ok with my time. However, where it really affected me was on my stroke - I was so focused on breathing and the waves that I did not concentrate on a smooth stroke, and thus was likely just a pure windmill in the water. Not as efficient as I would like to be. What would you do differently?: Focus better - I know I am not going to drown. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from swim to transition (250-300 yards) along some rough gravel and pavement. Had a rack almost to myself so finding my bike was easy, and I got out of my wetsuit and into my shoes and helmet easily. No complaints on transition, I ran with my bike to the mount line, so I was pretty happy with this. What would you do differently?: Nothing, it all went smooth. Bike
Comments: Time was a bit slower than I had hoped, but my back was a bit sore and tight, although I make no excuses that it slowed me down. I pushed hard uphill, getting out of the saddle frequently. This is still my weakest discipline, so I suppose it makes sense that although I thought I did ok, I was dead last in my AG on the bike time. What would you do differently?: I just need to keep getting time in the saddle to get stronger on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: Totally spaced getting out of my shoes until it was too late. I think I was too busy watching the family wave at me and smiling for the camera. The rest of T2 was good - I ran with my bike, got into my running shoes fine, took an extra 20 seconds for some G2, and off I went. What would you do differently?: Think! Get out of my shoes earlier. Run
Comments: Not a bad run, but would have liked a better pace. No walking, which is getting to be a positive habit for my races. However, I do need to push harder and keep a stronger pace to improve my time. My legs are strong enough to hold, I just need to get over the mental block and do it. I am definitely doing better getting more fluid and nutrition along the course, and cooling off with water over my head at each aid station. What would you do differently?: Speed up a bit. Post race
Warm down: Had a muscle milk, hung out briefly, then loaded the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing major, just need to keep training and getting better. My times are improving overall, so where I place in my AG needs to not matter. Event comments: DCB does a good job, especially considering the smaller numbers of athletes they get to turn out. They are good people and take care of those who support them. Last updated: 2011-03-04 12:00 AM

Got up early, as always, had a banana and hard boiled eggs. Loaded the car, woke up the family, had some G2 and a 5 hour energy before the race. Set up transition, hung out with the family, and walked the 250yds to the start.
Did not stretch, which is likely why my back was hurting on the bike. Not a good start - no stretching.
