Sunny
Total Time = 1h 20m 42s
Overall Rank = 289/939
Age Group = 0-39 Clydes
Age Group Rank = 9/32
Pre-race routine:

Normal routine, peanut butter, Nutella & toast with milk. Left the house at 5:00, arrived at Ft. DeSoto at 5:45 to a half mile long line of cars waiting to get in the parking lot.
Event warmup:

Walked down to the swim start twice.
Swim
  • 17m 7s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

First race in a wetsuit. Did not really see the benefit I expected. Still can't get comfortable with my face in the water during an OWS.
What would you do differently?:

Not wait until the day before to make sure the wetsuit I ordered was sent. Big headache that could have been avoided.
Transition 1
  • 03m 40s
Comments:

First race with new tri shoes. They worked great!!! Feet did not get caught on the tongue, velcro strap was easy to grab. Just need to check Left pedal because shoe came unclipped as I was getting foot into shoe, could have been a bad situation.
What would you do differently?:

Best thing for me would be a wetsuit that was above the calf. Feet are too big to get out of tight suit legs.
Bike
  • 27m 14s
  • 9.5 miles
  • 20.93 mile/hr
Comments:

Passed a ton of people. Must have said "on your left" to 1000 of the 1200 people entered. Still laughing to myself as I watched the people making the turn from tailwind into headwind and not change gears. You could see their cadence drop along with their speed.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, bike felt really good.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Almost ran into someone, not an athlete, who was exiting the transition area at the bike entry point. Still not sure who, or why they were there. The surface of the parking lot is the biggest issue with Ft. DeSoto races.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, T2 is always my fastest leg.
Run
  • 31m 34s
  • 3.6 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Very hot run with little to no shade. Service road was very chewed up by the time I got to it so it was a very soft, slow return leg.
What would you do differently?:

Not skip the 3-4 run workouts prior to the race.
Post race
Warm down:

None, got some water, found my sandals, went to truck, got my Receverite, iced my ankle, walked back to check results and showered off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Must change nutrition, too much crap in the diet right now. Need to drop 15 pounds, see above.

Event comments:

Good race by same group that puts on Top Gun in June. Biggest complaint is the short bike course.

Were you wearing a Ryder 2 piece? I think I saw you heading into the food area but was heading away from you.
