Precipitation
Total Time = 3h 00m 53s
Overall Rank = 69/185
Age Group = W 30-34
Age Group Rank = 19/36
Pre-race routine:

Didn't do any warmup, didn't look at the swim course. It was raining and cold and I was shivering even with my wetsuit and jacket on. Never could get warm. Forgot to take half my stuff to transition when I first went over. I was in a fog and my brain was on another planet. I was definitely not mentally in the game.
Event warmup:

None, a huge mistake.
Swim
  • 37m 53s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

The water was so cold I almost didn't start. Never could feel my hands or feet or catch my breath. Had a lot of trouble swimming straight and getting into a rhythm. Did OK sighting but I know I could have done better. I was a bundle of nerves
What would you do differently?:

Get in the water, look at the course ahead of time. Get used to the temps and really focus on my race and my race plan (I had a good one but I didn't put it into practice). More OWS practice.
Transition 1
  • 03m 17s
Comments:

Had a hard time getting moving once I was out of the water. Was using a new Garmin and had trouble getting my suit sleeve over it. Also had issues with the lapping/multisport function. Just really couldn't rush myself, was so happy to be out of the water and took more time than I normally do.
What would you do differently?:

Get used to my Garmin, practice taking off my wetsuit with it on. Practice T1
Bike
  • 1h 22m 51s
  • 24 miles
  • 17.38 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Push myself more. Let go of the swim and just focus on making up time on the bike. Have more confidence in my ability to do better in the conditions.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Overall it was OK - I actually ahd a good spot and was much more focused coming back into T2. I didn't do very well (slow) with the dismount and I don't ride with my feet out of my shoes. I acutally was 5th in my AG for time and 25th OA. I even beat my super speedy husband by 2 seconds so that was pretty good!
What would you do differently?:

More practice with flying dismounts
Run
  • 55m 13s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I've had a nagging quad injury which was bad enough but both Achilles/calves were so tight and cramping my run was horribly painful. I was happy I didn't stop to walk with the amount of pain I was in. But it was definitely my biggest limiting factor. I was frustrated that one aid station ran out of cups which prevented me from getting some fluids at a crucial point.
What would you do differently?:

Going to see the docotr today so hopefully I can correct this before the next race.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat and cried - literally. Did some stretching and rolling later on. Ate a bunch of junk food. Not the best...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pain, cold and my mental attitude all contributed. I can't blame the weather, but I didn't react well (physically or emotionally) to it.

Course: Rolling hills, actually a good course. I just kind of gave up a bit and didn't push myself as hard as I would have liked. I know I am capable of better. The intermittent rain and wind didn't help. I did pass a lot of people that crushed me in the swim, which was a nice thing.

Now you know how bad it can be...so next time, it will certainly go more smoothly.  Keep your chin up, you had an enviable and awesome transition time.

Keep at it!
