Pre-race routine:

Up at 6:00am. Had toast and peanut butter with a cup of coffee. Got my stuff ready and headed out eating a banana.
Event warmup:

I was able to warm up in the pool which I really needed to do. I don't like to just jump in the cold pool and swim all out. Met up with my twin sister who also was doing this tri. She was ranked with the fast swimmers, so she started her tri about 30 minutes ahead of me. LOL. During my wait, I had a gel shot, stretched, and peed. Now I'm ready. :)

Comments:

Well, I wanted to do better. My goal was to do a minute faster than last year. I did about 16 seconds faster...sigh. The pool swim was an unpleasant experience. Somehow me and 3 other people were all lumped together for most of the swim. Some hairy guy was so rude during the swim. I tried to pass him a couple of times and he would side kick preventing me to pass. WTF!!! When we got to the wall, I would pass him, but than he made an effort to get by me, slow down a little and than not let me try to pass him. I felt a little cheated by this. :(
What would you do differently?:

I don't know! Be more aggressive? Not let Hairy Guy get to me. Get faster for sure.
Transition 1

Comments:

Ranked 254 for this. Not bad. Very MOP.
What would you do differently?:

Get faster
Bike

Comments:

This was tough. I started out with a nasty headwind. I felt like I was working soooo hard just to maintain 12-14mph. I didn't want to push to the point of my legs giving out on me. I needed a little strength left for the run portion. There were some parts where we had a nice tailwind. I tried to pick up the speed (20-24mph) to make up for the slow start.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time in the saddle.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Ranked 300. Again, very MOP.
What would you do differently?:

Be faster.
Run
  • 22m 50s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

I can always count on my run to pull me through. My legs were feeling tired, but I pushed it through and passed a lot of people. That made me feel pretty good and made up for my fight with rude Harry Guy from the pool. I finished strong and saw my sister waiting for me. :)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Post race
Warm down:

Post race noodles and powerade. My sis and I walked our bikes back to the car. We waited around for the awards ceremony as my sis got 2nd OVERALL in the ladies. She sooo good. She did the race in a hour.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Harry Guy, wind, lack of time in the saddle ect...ect...ect.

Event comments:

This is a great race for newbies and veterans. It's a family friendly race with lots of support from the community. I am for sure going to do this race again as I have a score to settle in the pool. ;)

YEAH CLAIRE!!    Congratulations!  Sounds like the guy in the pool was a pain in the a$$.  You totally would've beat your pool time if it wasn't for him.  Tongue out  And man, the bike portion of my tri was brutal even without wind, so I can't even imagine how it felt for you.  Holy 7 minute miles on the run batman!  You are SPEEDY!

Take some well deserved recovery time -- I slept for 3 hours after my tri -- but it was my first one.

What are post race noodles?

Good job on this race. Darn wind! Sixth in your AG isn't too shabby you know. Great start to a tri season if you ask me.
