Total Time = 1h 40m 4s
Overall Rank = 114/146

Age Group Rank = 9/9
Pre-race routine:

Got up ate 1 chicken thigh, 1.75 cups mashed potato, 4 egg white and 2 eggs, 1 cup apple juice, 1 potassium chelate, 2 serving HEED.
Event warmup:

Stretching
Swim
  • 14m 52s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Let the swimmer in my lane go first, caught her 1st lap, she passed me 4th lap, total time from start of swim to entrance of transition area (had to walk all the way around pool, jog 100yds to transition), actual pool time probably 13:40.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on swimming.
Transition 1
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Transition in grass, didn't really push the transitions, dried off pretty good, it was probably 50 degrees
What would you do differently?:

Not dry off
Bike
  • 41m 11s
  • 12 miles
  • 17.48 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike was fun, rough, but fun, my favorite, did start to cramp on 3rd lap
What would you do differently?:

Ride/drive the route before hand
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

No speed laces, didn't push it
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder and drink more in the transition
Run
  • 40m 7s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't prepare well for the run do to some Plantar Fasciaitis. I did most of my "run" cardio on the elliptical. The trail was rough, and took a lot of energy for me to keep my balance and make sure i was planting my feet in the right spots.
Had some pretty serious cramps coming out of the transition for first 1.5 miles, so a lot of that was walking and stretching.
What would you do differently?:

More run training.
Post race
Warm down:

walked and stretched

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my second Tri, and First since 2006. I am doing a series this year and this was my warm up event before the series starts in June (for me). I am well into the Clydesdale Class which this race didn't have and am doing Tri's as a motivation to lose weight. training for this race I lost 25lbs, coming down from 246 in January to 221. During my next training cycle I will focus on Running and Swimming.

Event comments:

The race was fun, Durango is a fun town. Lot's of volunteers, race was not chip timed so who knows. 2 drink stations on the run, 1 past halfway, 1 500 yds from the finish? That's my only criticism of the race. Now I have a base and something to shoot for.
