I'm getting excited to ride my bike on the expressway at Leon's Triathlon. I heard their having team racing this year....that should be exciting too!

I received an email that you could receive $52 off registration.  Too many tris for to do in June.

Do I want to know why you can't stomach swimming in Wolf Lake?

Im with you Rob, do I really want to know why Wolf Lake is questionable?  Im really looking forward to this race, it will help me with how much I have to turn up my training for Steelhead in August.

Is everyone ready for the race this Sunday?  I guess its supposed to be a beautiful day!  Im excited and a bit nervous, as I always am before a race.  It seems all the small aches and pains pop up the week before a race too.

eddievolly - 2011-06-02 11:06 PM Great to see the chatter. I am seriously scared of the water temp!

Did my first OWS in a wetsuit last Saturday in a pond.  The qualifier on this is that because it was a pond, I imagine it's susceptible to higher degrees of variation in temp due to rain, sun, etc.  Anyway, that water was COLD!

Alright - so I had some extra time and I took a trip...to Wolf Lake.

It's not a beach start.  We are at the boat piers near the pavilion with a swim start.  Around two buoys and into a boat ramp.  They were clear bowling ball size rocks out of the ramp when I got there.  I asked if I could take a 20 min swim and they told me to go ahead.

I was told the water temp was 69 degrees and it felt perfect in my full wetsuit.  I got out at the boat ramp mid-swim to get a feel for the bottom and managed to slip a little anc cut the side of my foot pretty good.  Ah well - back in the water and finish the swim.

So long-ish story short -

  • The water is warm.
  • It's not an out to back off the beach.
  • DO NOT try to stand at the exit until you can touch with your hand when swimming.  There are too many rocks and also a trailer wheel concrete "stop" has been built in to stop silly people that don't know how far to back their trailer in the water.
  • Was informed by the folks at Urban Tri Gear that there will be a carpet about 30 feet long coming out of the water.  I don't know how far INTO the water it extends, so there might be some slippery concrete to contend with.

That entire Staging Area and Finish Area is awesome.  Leon is really rolling out the red carpet for us.

Hey guys, I didn't bother to ask and I don't see it readily on the website...when does Transition open for us to set up?

The website states that the start time is 8:00am...did anyone get info on the actual time we can get our crap into transition?

Thanks,

Eddie

And here I almost hollered out "Happy Birthday" to you.  I was the one in the Spongebob sunglasses.

Times are posted.  They look a little messed up.  Not saying I was faster than what was posted, but I'm looking at other times and they're off.

HOLY ________ RIGHT?  I had two people tell me 29.3 and another 28.6.

Apologies but I was waiting for someone else on here to say something about that first.  I thought I was out of my tree!  Four miles is not alot, but I think I could have used some love there.

WOW!  The bike course was 4 miles long!?!?!  I have to disagree.  In a short race like this one, that is an increase of over 15%.  And if you are mentally preparing yourself for one distance and another pops up like that, that can be taxing.  Especially if there are any Elites or Pro's doing it (haven't looked at the results) it could screw up their pacing.

Great job of dealing with it all of you.

Was definetly a great time at Leon's yesterday!  I did notice you running with the birthday hat on.  Actually got a good laugh out of it!

I have seen several times posted that are clearly wrong.  But overall what a great day from the weather to the course!  Even with the extra 4 miles!

I was trying to, as we say, HTFU and not complain too much.

It was a good time though.
