cardenas1 - 2011-05-01 9:40 PM Alright, am I the only one wondering why two cops with a defibulator in their trunk were not already doing this? That's said, she is a true hero. Imagine where your head is at after all that and still be able to finish? Amazing.

Nope...that's the exact thing I thought when beginning to read this thread.

She is a true hero.

They thought he was having a seizure. He probably wasn't completely limp yet.

Now that's a triathlete.

I have a new hero.

This is great!

In some of the trail running races around here, I have actually heard them announce that if you stop to help someone who is downed due to injury, they will deduct the time you stopped to assist them from your finishing time.  I always thought that it was odd that they would have to offer this in order to ask someone to stop racing to help somone who is hurt...   this triathlete shows that to be human is the most important thing.  The finish line will be there... a human life may not be.

This is an incredibly insprining story, not just the highlight of having the skill necessary to save a life, but the conscious will to use them.

That, and the total kick-assedness of the fact that after they loaded him on the ambulance, she finished the race!

But don't cops have some basic first aid training to know the difference?  I have none, but apparently the difference involved checking for a pulse.  I would think cops should know to do that?
