Almost hit by a car today!

Veteran  263   Goodyear |  Subject: Almost hit by a car today!Running against traffic in the bike lane a SUV with a women talking on a cell phone almost hit me. I felt the hair on my right arm raise up against the car. She was going 30mph at least. She swerved into the bike lane so fast that there was no time to react. I can see her clearly in my head like a photo. Weird. Every detail about her from her hair, clothing, expression on her face. A close call. So everyone please be careful!  |

There was a lengthy discussion on the Estrella forum last month about runners (joggers) in the bike lane and I was so surprised at the aggression towards runners and cyclists in our neighborhood. I always considered it the perfect place to ride and run but it turns out there are just as many idiot drivers out here too. I'm glad it is light in the morning now so I can do some running on the trails. Take care! |

Veteran 263 Goodyear | Subject: RE: Almost hit by a car today! Thank you all! Yes, lucky that I didn't get hit. I move out of the way for cyclist when I am in the bike lane. I can see them coming so I move to the sidewalk without a problem but a CAR! That was so scary and fast. If there was a cyclist they would of been hit. I am usually on the sidewalk but the road at San Gabriel next to Elliott Market is paved with rocks/dirt (not good to run on). |

Extreme Veteran 488 Phoenix | Subject: RE: Almost hit by a car today! Glad you're ok! I've learned to read cars over the years too, but sometimes drivers do stupid things at the very last second. Like you, I also run in the bike lanes in my neighborhood. I've been enjoying the trails lately (I live really close to Trail 100). It's so nice to not deal with traffic for a change. No stupid drivers, no a-hole guys honking their horns and making comments about my butt, etc. Very peaceful out there! Be safe! |
