How much slower are you usually during a tri vs. a stand alone 5k?

Based on my limited tri experience (1 race) exactly 2:15 slower (and hoping to improve that).

I'll let you know as soon as I do a stand-alone.

I did three 5k's earlier this year at 21:15, 20:55, and 20:44.

Just recently I did a race that included a 1500m swim and a 5k run, and my run time was 20:54. I was happy that I could beat 2 out of my 3 stand-alone 5k times for the year after swimming 1500 meters, but I attribute most of that to better fitness.

Stand-alone 5K pace: 7:02
3mile in Sprint race pace: 8:16
Very unhappy

This is even worse.
10K pace: 7:25
10K in Oly: 9:35
Very very unhappy

Stand alone 5k=16:24
Triathlon 5k=17:01
so about 37 seconds.

The better the runner, the closer the times. Look at Corey where his times are very close - for most of us it's a minute - or more. If you are within 30" then that is 10 secs per mile and is considered very good.

Stand alone: 21:58

Triathlon: 22:21

So about 23 seconds slower.

Once upon a time I was doing 5K in about 19 flat and I'd like to get back there, but I've really stopped working on sprinting speed and more on endurance since I started tri training.

5K: 29:08
sprint: 28:17

so I went 51 seconds faster in my tri. But I'm one of the rare ones that runs faster in a brick than when I just run.

5K: 24:49
Sprint 5k: 24:30 (but the course just might have been a little short)

I find that my tri times are a little better (or at least the run seems easier) because I'm forced to pace better. Because I can't go all out in the first mile, I have something left for the rest of the race. During a regular 5k, I tend to think that I have enough juice to run all out the first mile and just continue on that way.... uh, no.

I'm still learning to run and improving steadily. My 5k time from the sprint I did a week ago was 45 seconds faster than the stand alone 5k I ran just over a month ago.

Just did a 5K run last saturday at 20:44 on a course that was a little long according to my trusty Polar 625. My best 5K during a Tri came about 3 weeks earlier at 22:35, a time I have done 2 other times and can't seem to lower. By the way my PR on a 5K is 19:55.
