Sunny
Total Time = 2h 47m 33s
Overall Rank = 20/43
Age Group = W 30-34
Age Group Rank = 5/10
Pre-race routine:

*note that OA ranks are just out of women - I was 91/136 total contestants*
It was open racking so I got there early to ensure a good spot. No nerves. I changed up some equipment, my night before meal, a bunch of other little things just as a trial before Eagleman - no problems. The day before I swam the course a bit and previewed the bike and run courses - this was key to my success. Sipped nuun and EFS in the Am, ate a banana at 5:30 then had coffee and oatmeal at 6:30. A gel about 20 min before the start of the race.
Event warmup:

Ran about a mile 45 min before the race then swam for a couple minutes closer to the start. Chatted, stayed loose, did a lot of visualization and listened to music.
Swim
  • 33m 59s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

Overall I felt good, kept a pretty good pace, sighted well. PR at this distance OWS for me.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe I would push a little more though I was pretty fatigued coming out of the swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

I practiced my transition a lot, did visualization and had a very definite plan which I stuck to. No real issues here and I was happy with my time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 19m 51s
  • 24.03 miles
  • 18.06 mile/hr
Comments:

HAving the course open to traffic was a little hairy at times. I wish they would have coned off part of the road - I did get stuck between cars a couple times. Also the water bottle handoff was in a awkward spot and I couldn't quite get there so I missed that. I was acutally afraid based on how my quads were feeling that I was expending too much on the bike and would burn up on the run but it ended up OK.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

First time doing a flying dismount - yay! Felt like this went pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe practice dismounts more but OA I felt good here as well.
Run
  • 51m 16s
  • 6.24 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I wish there had been one more aid station - I felt like I needed water at mile 3 and there was no so I had to wait till 4 for that and to take my gu. I was trying to catch 2 girls ahead of me but they were significantly faster on the run than I am. As it was I PRed my 10K (tri or running race) but 3+ minutes and I know I couldn't have given it any more so I have no regrets.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Got a massage, some food, chatted with people.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing - everything came together for this race so well I seriously could not be more happy. I think letting go and not caring so much really made a big difference from my last race. The nice weather and small race were bonuses as well.

Event comments:

I think for a first year race it was good - I would like to see more buoys on the swim, some more directing of traffic on the bike. The people in the neighborhood were super friendly and the volunteers were great. I would definitely do this race again.

Age Group: 6/10
Overall: 30/43
Performance: Good
Suit: full
Course: Triangle course. First time doing a beach start. The swim tot the first buoy was OK - though between 1st and 2nd and 3rd and 4th I felt there could have been more yellow sighting buoys. Water was a good tempa dn calm. I was in the last wave and it was a small race so no real issues with crowding, fighting people. My sighting was really good though having orange caps and orange turn buoys is a bad idea.
