Malgal - 2011-05-14 2:13 AM Since we can't discuss the book yet, has anyone read "The Help" by Kathryn Sockett?  I am just loving it (and it is another book I am reading on onread.com).  I lived in Jackson, MS for three years so I can relate to the book in many respects.  I am glad things have changed quite a bit since the time period the book was written in but I still think it has a long way to go.

No, but I shall mosey over to onread and see if it's there. Any parallels with Room?

I just finished Walk Two Moons, a young adults Newbery book, which is told from the perspective of a young girl.

All of this, and Room, are very helpful to me as I'm editing my novel, at least half of which is from the perspective of a young girl and the rest as a young lady.

I would love to read a novel by Yanti.

***highest compliment ever*** especially coming from a librarian ... {{MELON PRESS}}

So I (unexpectedly) finished the book this morning. I'm reading it on my phone using the Kindle app, so no idea what page I'm on. Then, it just ended. WTF. Guess I'm ready to talk about it and will have to wait. I might have to go back and re-read some spots.

Ditto. Well, I did kind of know where I was in the book but then it still suprised me when it ended.  I kept pressing next page but nope, wouldn't give me one.   Sound be an interesting discussion

LOVED The Help! Did you know they are making a movie? That is one book I can see made into a decent movie.  It was 2 books ago for me so still fresh. The one after that before Room sucked but since I bought it on Kindle I felt obligated to finish it. I kept thinking it was going to get better and then it was over. I was ready for it to be over for a long time. Can't remember the title right now but it was a Fanny Flagg book.

I finished it today and it kind of just ended.  Like some others have said about Room, I wasn't expecting the last paragraph I read to be the end of the book.  I was disappointed, but what a beautiful book.

Oh, and no, I did not know it was going to be a movie.

I'm slowly losing interest in the book. It just doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Perhaps I just need to keep reading, but other books are calling my name and I put Room aside for others. Somewhat disappointed.

Finished. After reading the posts here I kept thinking the book was just going to drop off but I felt it wrapped up well. Eager to discuss.

Have we decided on another book? Or when we will pick that other book? It might be nice to have a couple listed for folks who would like to get more than one at a time.

Nope.

How should we go about picking the next?

Just take turns picking?

Keri do YOU want to pick next?

I worked late last night . Got home about midnight and then could NOT put the freaking book down! Almost done......but i am trying to savour it.

Damn it's a good read. VERY discussion worthy I think.......

Ack! The pressure!!! How about I will start a poll thread and people can add book suggestions? Then the books with the highest votes will be put in the que?

In general I am not a fast reader but sometimes I have a bunch of time and I really hate not having a book to read. I also know some folks travel and it would be nice if those of us with electronic readers could buy more than one at a time and always have one waiting.

Ok, wow. The book just took a turn for the better. I'm about 20% in on the Kindle. I think I'm going to read this more now. Glad I stuck with it.

When is our discussion starting? I don't want to be late in joining.
