Swim
Comments: The start was not in waves of competency as described. Single file line over the timing mat, wade in to mid-thigh and dive. Some chop out to the first buoy, but once that was rounded it was game on. Full on chop made sighting difficult and stroke rhythm was compromised. Final stretch no too bad. What would you do differently?: Swim in SF Bay a little more if the conditions are going to be like that! Transition 1
Comments: About an average T1 for me. What would you do differently?: Maybe run all the way into T1. Bike
Comments: I rode 2/3 of the course 2 weeks prior to the race to get a feel. Since then, the county had made some repairs. I'm not telling them how to do their job, but damn...there were patches that had a 3/4-1" lip on them. I figured I'd see more water bottles on the side of the road. The road conditions in some places were extremely dangerous. Lots of pot holes and cracks running parallel in the road. I liked the course layout so you could see the rest of the field and all athletes were respectful of . Portas were set at the last aid station which worked fine for me. What would you do differently?: Need more hill workouts. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Use Yankz to avoid having to tie the laces, but the foot problems need to be remedied before that. Run
Comments: Felt good out of T2 but the rolling hills took a toll on me at mile 7, and then the wheels started falling off. Plenty of drinks along the way in addition to the hydration I carried. Tried to push through, but had to walk up a few hills. What would you do differently?: Longer rides followed by longer runs. More hill workouts. Post race
Warm down: Walk around the venue followed by 10-15 minutes of stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Water and wind conditions and conditioning. Event comments: This race was a gauge to let me know where I am with conditioning while taining for the Vineman Full in July. I'm halfway through the BT 20 week RPE plan and am satisfied with my results. I'll do this event next year because it's close to home, the scenery was great, and my family enjoyed the small venue feel. Last updated: 2011-05-03 12:00 AM

Up at 4am. Ate bagel with almond butter, banana, clif bar, sipped Cytomax. Loaded the bike and the wife and left Concord at 5am. Easy parking. No lines at the porta-potties - nice.
Brisk walk into an easy jog for 10 minutes, easy stretch, put on wetsuit. Headed down to the water just in time for them to say everyone out of the water. Description of where the buoys were located - priceless.
