Pre-race routine:

Up, breakfast, into suit and car packed, then off for some fun...
Event warmup:

Hung about forever as I was in the fastest swim heat - when heat 3 started I did lots of hip releasing and general active stretchy stuff.
Swim
  • 23m 45s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 35s / 100 meters
Comments:

Never swum this kind of pool based thing before - it was really well organised and the stewards counted for us - my steward is also in the tri club and swims with Wifey, so all very chatty and nice!!

I started last in the lane and caught all bar one person in the first 10 lengths, then settled down a bit. Must of slowed up a wee bit because the Ozzy girl I'd just overtaken took me back again and I ended the last 8 or so just drafting her - pretty darn happy to get my pace back so close to race pace of last September so early in the season...
What would you do differently?:

Nothin! A bit more training will get me back to 1:30 per 100m which is just dandy! :)
Transition 1
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

really short transition distance-wise, which explains the good time...
What would you do differently?:

Could have been a little faster if I hadn't got in such a fankle with ditching the organisers swim cap and there was a little bit of jostling for space with my Ozzy pal who kind drifted into my air space - no biggy and frankly anything under a min in T1 is fine by me!
Bike
  • 1h 22m 10s
  • 23.87 miles
  • 17.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Not enough fluid I think...
What would you do differently?:

Have tri bars and maybe a bigger bottle of juice...
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

2 probs: I forgot I was wearing arm warmers and should have peeled them off before T2 - ended up running with them and stuffing them into my trisuit! and I couldn't feel my feet, so getting those rubber toes into my running shoes was a struggle!
What would you do differently?:

arms off first!
Run
  • 44m 33s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Without a pee and blisters I reckon I could have been maybe 2-3 min quicker - hard to tell, but I felt like I was probably holding back slightly on the run. (I find the transition from not being too stupid on the swim and bike to giving 105% on the run a bit difficult!
What would you do differently?:

tape my feet properly - the blisters are killing me and slowed me down in the last 2 miles.
Post race
Warm down:

rolling in grass with kids - long shower and stretching once home!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

leaky goggles (not much tho), lack of tri bars on bike, and improperly dressed blisters

Event comments:

I held back a bit on the run I think (although the blisters were agony and I am meant to be doing an HM next weekend!) Also wasted time with a pitstop - otherwise yeh yeh yeh - best race so far! :)

I can't really tell from the way the results are posted, but I think I was at most 12 in my age group and possibly inside the top 10 :)

162 Ave 179 Max 82rpm 2045ft ascent 36.7mph on descending the Swire
Wind: Strong with gusts
Course: Gusty squals coming from West and the course headed West first, so the first half of the course was a shit into a massive headwind! The climbs were great cos I was in the shelter of the hill! The Swire is a massive pass from Etrick Valley to Yair Valley and has a scarey descent - somehow the surface was dry and I topped out 2mph faster than previous runs - probably how I nearly ended it all in the ditch! No one passed me and I passed 2 peeps, so overall pretty darn pleased!
