Subject: I am officially a Triathlete

Well this morning I finished my very first Triathlon a Sprint distance "mock" tri put on by the Portland Triathlon Club. It was a "mock" event because do to permitting there could not be any official timing and they had some great clinics in the beginning before the race and a big BBQ afterward.  If anyone is interested you can read my full race write up here http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp... had an amazing time though. I loved the whole thing and I feel so excited to be part of such a great group of people like the ones I met today. I am totally new to cycling and swimming I had ran fairly competitively in high school way back when but this is so much better then a running race. I have at least 6 races on my schedule for this year and if they are all as fun as this one then it is going to be a great summer.

Thanks everyone.  I totally missed out on the secret handshake or if they did show me I had way to many endorphins running through my blood stream to be able to remember it.  I will post some pictures though when I get copies of them.

I do have a question. I tend to be a type A personality competitive person and looking through the race results for my next tri that is coming up has me rethinking my thoughts of running the Olympic distance. With the speeds that I am capable of right now I think I could compete and possibly finish top 3 in my age group for a sprint distance. What I was planning on doing was the Olympic distance though and looking at the results it seems that the top finshers for the olympic were all running a biking at a faster pace then what the sprint winners were and they are of course going twice the distance. So should I just stick with the sprint distance for a while and be able to be somewhat competitive even though I have been putting in the miles and training for an Olympic or is the only way that I am going to get faster at the longer distance by doing the distance?

You guys are so cute! CONGRATULATIONS, TRIATHLETE! never mind 'mock' ... you can time yourself ... I've done tris with less official setups than what you have in the background!
