Sunny
Total Time = 6h 19m 56s
Overall Rank = 1102/2199
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 157/246
Pre-race routine:

Up and at it at 4 a.m. to beat traffic. Was able to park close to make an easy walk to transition. Body marked and set up went smooth. Rookie mistake- after the last porta potty I stated to put my wetsuit on only to realize that it was going on backwards. The bad thing is there were around 50 people watching while standing in line.... dumb dumb!
Event warmup:

No real warm up...
Swim
  • 43m 9s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Couldn't have asked for a smoother swim. Started out on the inside about 3 rows back. I figured that most people would want to be on the outside away from everything, so I went the other way and went right down the buoy's. I actually touched a couple of them I was so close. There was only a couple of times that I bumped into anyone, but only because they were going off course.
What would you do differently?:

maybe push a little harder for time...but otherwise I was very pleased
Transition 1
  • 03m 56s
Comments:

Out of the water and over to two high school boys to strip. They were pumped and ripped the suit clean off. It is a good thing I had my tri shorts tied well or they might of taken them with the suit. Took my time while in transition to make sure I didn't forget anything. Even took the time to run over and steal a kiss from Ashley
What would you do differently?:

Steal two kisses from Ashley!
Bike
  • 3h 10m 59s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Strong headwind...but no surprise being Galveston. Several people went down on different areas of the course. At one point there were at least two ambulances running around
What would you do differently?:

Find a more comfortable fit on the bike. Buy a TT bike
Transition 2
  • 04m 19s
Comments:

Again, took my time to make sure nothing was left...caught a porta potty on the way out.
What would you do differently?:

take more gu for the run
Run
  • 2h 17m 33s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off feeling strong, then the heat started. I was able to keep cool well enough, but the time diffidently suffered. Luckily I keep my sponges and was about to dunk them into ice to keep cold. Lap 4 couldn't get there soon enough, but once it did it flew by.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing other than maybe solar panels to capture the heat
Post race
Warm down:

pizza and beer

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not having a TT bike made the headwind more of a factor. Not being able to really practice hot runs due to the time of year the race is didn't help
