Swim
Comments: A leisurely swim, following my daughter. This was the longest distance she had swam, ever! She signed up thinking she only needed to swim 100 yds. She stuck with it... Transition 1
Comments: Helped my daughter get moving, and gave her some extra layers for the bike ride due to the weather. What would you do differently?: Check my bike closer during pre-race. The bike computer sensor was knocked out of alignment from the bike rack on the car. Bike
What would you do differently?: Nothing. At this point, I wasn't concerned about my time. Spent the ride coaching/encouraging my daughter. She was much more comfortable here (we have done 20 mi rides before) and she did well for her first race. Transition 2
Comments: Helped my daughter rack her bike and switched my shoes and off I went. Run
Comments: I felt slow during the run, but as it turns out my mind was playing tricks on me. This was one of my fastest 5K times in recent years, either in a tri or as a stand-alone race. My daughter finished her portion of the race with a friend that had already finished earlier, so I was free to run my own pace. What would you do differently?: Push harder! Post race
Warm down: Not much, just walked picked up all of my gear before the heavy rain started and then took my daughters to BW3's to celebrate their completion of their first triathlon What limited your ability to perform faster: Being a dad, but not trading that for any medal in the world. Event comments: Well-organized for being a small race. Limited number of bike racks that did not support the number of participants. Would have liked to have seen a course map prior to race start, but that is just my preference. Last updated: 2011-05-07 12:00 AM

Originally signed up for this Tri as a training race in-between other races that I had planned. My daughters were interested in the kid's race, but that was obviously bad info, so they somewhat nervously participated in the full race. This was the first Tri for my 10 yr old daughter, so I scrapped my plans to race and simply followed her along the swim and bike portions of the course. Sometimes it isn't about the speed...
