Subject: Panic button--bike on ferry for Bintan?

Probably too late, but.... In what state is the bike supposed to go on the ferry for the Bintan Tri? Anybody know? I haven't been able to contact a human being to get the question answered. Background--I'm leaving Vietnam tomorrow PM to Singapore and will be taking the ferry early Saturday  AM to Bintan. of course the bike is flying in a box (original packing box). Should it go on the ferry in the box, and I assemble it when it gets there? Or does it go on as an assembled bike? In that case what should I do with the box? I'm not returning to the Singapore hotel afterwards; spending the night on Bintan then back to S'pore and directly to airport Sunday AM. Leave the box in the terminal and disassemble and pack there or in the airport (should have lots of time)? Or take it in the box and send it back in the box?

Gotta vent--two of my buddies just realized yesterday they didn't book a hotel room in Singapore yet. Thank goodness I did. But now might have two buddies on my floor, plus bikey. Ugh! I am NEVER going to sign up for this race again!

I'm going to get an answer on this for you tomorrow morning, but I'm 90% sure the bike case goes on the ferry. A lot of people, surprisingly enough, can't put their own bikes together, and also logistically not everyone would have the time or place to do it. And you're right--where would the case go?

Thanks--I'll keep checking the site whenever I can get away with it at work! I was thinking in the box too, just go directly to the race venue, and put it together. (I can and have, but, as with everything, I'm slow and clumsy!) That way I'll have access to a mechanic on-site to check I've done it right and deal with any last-minute problems. But the race info seemed to imply that one was supposed to check bikes assembled--it mentioned you might want to remove the pedals,  but it sounded like they were being wheeled on the ferry. I'd prefer that the bike stay in its box all the way to the race venue. But I don't want to show up at the terminal with a boxed bike and be told to assemble it at the last minute!

My cycling buddy Paul has taken his whole bike box on 2 years in a row. So you should be fine. In case there's some circumstances gone awry this year (you never know in Asia, heh!), worst case scenario is you can actually check the whole box as luggage on the ferry (that's what some of our friends did who couldn't get a bike booking or didn't think to).

GOOD LUCK! try to have fun despite all the craziness

Thanks a bunch! It's staying in the box, then. I think I (and buddies) have a bike booking. At any rate I finally got a number to call, called it, and talked to a human being who then e-mailed to tell me she had booked it. No official receipt as this person never responded to e-mails again. Hopefully it is all in the computer somewhere.
