stefanier - 2011-09-13 6:00 PM You and me both!Bib 2847 in wave 22I am traveling with a group of 15 athletes and I am the second to last person to go only followed by our relay team. Same thing happened last year. I really wish they would stop putting women last as a default.

last 2 1/2 Iron's I've done the M35-39 and M30-34 were the last groups out (Muncie we waited an hour, Florida about the same). So I wouldn't state that they do it by default. I'm not a fast swimmer by any means, but maybe the thought process is that women would be slower in general and don't want them to get pounded? I don't know to be honest.

This will be my first HIM and it can't get here soon enough! I have watched the bike course videos on you tube and noticed there are a lot of turns along the course. Are all the turns marked on race day, and if so how are they marked?

Yes all of the turns are marked.  There will be volunteers at each turn pointing you in the right direction.  Enjoy the day, you only get 1 first HIM.

This will be my first 70.3. Now I'm extra nervous with my wave starting so late. Hope there's some water and nutrition left for me!

Anybody else notice that the information in the athletes guide, and on the website differ for the placement of bike aid stations...One place says every 15 miles, one says every 10 miles. Can anyone lend insight as to what the interval is? Was planning on bypassing the first aid station if it was 10 miles, however not sure if I would do the same gameplan if my first aid station would be mile 30...

Last 2 years aid stations where at 17, some where in the early 30's and last one around 45 or so. All were well stocked. As far as course markings it was very easy to follow. 3000 people to follow around there were always other riders around. They do have marshals busting people drafting. The offenders have to stop at the next aid station and sit in a penalty tent. Means they cant draft for 56 miles and only get 2 min penalty.

@savage I was raised and work in Jupiter.  Live in Stuart now. I have a buddy last name Savage. He did this race 2 yrs ago with me.

All3 and EC in the HOUSE!!!

I'll be looking for you guys to really pump me up on the run.  Still waiting on Shanks to tell me if I am racing this or training through it.  After todays screw up he may tell me no race period.  But if he lets me loose I will need the screaming on the run.  We gonna meet up before the race?  I should be in town on the 22nd or so.

Can anyone tell me what the water temp in the Savannah rivers is. I know this race has been wetsuit legal in the past years. I am just wondering if I sholud expect low 70s or high 60s for the swim. Any info would be appreciated.

This is data up to Aug 10th.  I'm guessing the temps would be slightly lower now that it is starting to cool off a tiny bit.  You can check the following for updates: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/dv?cb_00060=on&cb_00065=on&cb_00010=on&cb_63680=on&format=gif_default&begin_date=2011-08-01&end_date=2011-08-14&site_no=02197000&referred_module=sw

Can anyone suggest some healthy places to eat at? I'll be there on Friday, so I'll need a place or two to eat at . I saw that there's an Earth Fare, so I may just hit that up all weekend, if I can't find anywhere else.

The swim will be wetsuit legal.  The water in the river only gets warm during the fall and winter.  I would also like to thank all of the volunteers.  This event has outstanding support!

As far as healthy places to eat go, there is always Earth Fare but you can get good healthy options at New Moon cafe which is on the corner of 10th and Broad.  They are only open for breakfast and lunch but they have all locally grown veggies that are used.  They get a lot of their breads, fruits and veggies from the farmers market that takes place every Saturday morning downtown.

Rather than eating healthy, are there any places to get real good beer and big cheeseburgers after the race? Maybe ice cream as well?

Bib #2582, Wave 20. Sigh. I hate starting so late, but I guess somebody has to. I'll only be cursing if it's blazing hot when I start the run.

Can anybody tell me how far the parking is from transition? Since I have to wait so long to start, i'm not getting to transition until as late as I can make it.

Is it better to wait outside the transition area or wait at the swim start? I am assuming we can walk to the swim start anytime we want right? Looking for a good place I can lay down and chill out.

Hey Cindi,

I hear you on the heat (I am in wave 19) - I just checked the extended forecast and it calls for sun with a high of 89 on race day!  Yikes!!

I know nothing about parking, but someone told me a few pages back that there is a nice grassy area near the start where we can relax (or at least try to!) and wait.

I also have a question for all you veterans out there.  When I ride, I always put on some chamois butter of some form.  Do you put that on before the swim?  Will it stay on?  Also, I body glide my feet before running.  I am assuming that will not stay on long enough, and I should put that on after biking?  Any experienced advice would be appreciated!!

There is limited parking near bike into T2...limited.  It is a walk but not all that far.  There is quite a bit of parking at swim start.  Last year I parked my truck and walked down to transition.  Since the bike is already there all I had to carry was my transition bag and pump.  I took the trolley back to the car to drop off my crap then laid on the grassy hill.  Only frustrating part was the trolley getting lost-ish.  At the end of the day I took my truck down to the intersection near where you enter T2 (there is a parking lot-ish) walked in got my crap and off I went.  Very easy low stress.

If you are looking for a burger  and beer after the race 1102 would be a close option.  It is really casual and located at, you guess it, 1102 Broad Street.  Unfortunately, the best burgers in town are served at places that are closed on Sundays!
